Anyone at the Bnf able to shed light on whether this was an out of the blue announcement that surprised billings, or whether he knew and it was a respectful gesture for someone who has had a semi decent career

He was told on Monday.

I'm glad that Billings was told ahead of time, and not blindsided on the night, now give him the respect of a proper announcement that acknowledges 172 games over a 12 year AFL career.

This club has made an artform out of embarrassing itself over the past two years.

Probably won the award for best Casey player and so they avoided a delisting announcement before the award announcement.

The players are told at exit interviews. Not like they’re chopped via tweet.

Casey has a separate B&F award ceremony. This year it’s scheduled for the 2nd of October.

As for the players being told of their fate at the exit meetings, not all are. These delisted players were informed on Monday.

This makes sense to me. Telling players "You're going to be delisted... now go and play finals for Casey..." seems like awful management.

Totally agree but unfortunately that ship’s sailed. Yep, the SS Respect set sail at last night’s B&F.

Monday at their exit meetings?

Obviously a couple still in limbo waiting on the coach and trade period.

It didn’t seem like his delisting announcement was “saved for the best and fairest…” It seemed Richo let it slip. At least I hope that’s what it was, because if it was planned that way, what a dreadful way to treat a player. Zero respect.

Yeah sorry, you’re right. I keep thinking the Casey semi was the weekend before last. It seems like a whole week has passed between Saturday just gone and today.

It definitely wasn't a slip by Richo considering there was a graphic on the screen with his image amongst the delisted players.

I don't know why it wasn't announced amongst the other delistings on the MFC socials earlier in the day or separately or even communicated since.

Morris’ latest tweet makes it sound like Jack requested a mutual separation so possibly the club respected that wish and didn’t put him in the tweet. Included him in the B+F speech and graphic by mistake and then now have to work out phrase it.

Honestly every delisted player should do the same ‘you can’t break up with me, I broke up with you first’!

We have:

  • 3 Senior spots with McVee and Woewodin uncontracted

  • 3 A-Rookie spots with Henderson uncontracted.

  • 0 B-Rookie spots.

is it possible Richo wanted to announce it as he was Jack Billings' first senior coach at the Saints and may have a close connection with him?

Doesn’t sound like it was a special announcement from the people who were there.

May as well change the club motto to "Don't tell your right hand what your left can do."

If that’s how Richo announces the delisting of a player with whom he has a close connection, I’d hate to think how he’d do it for someone who’s not close to him.

Primary delists: Spargo, Billings, Fullarton, Woewodin

Rookie delists: Hore, Verrall, Sestan, Brown, Henderson

Four Primary delists and we already have connections with White, Sinnema, Derksen, Heath and Windhager - we'll need to trade a couple of players and/or delist and re-rookie some contracted players (e.g. Laurie, McAdam). We might get away with B Rookieing Sinnema if he gets through the draft.

We need to lose 2 Rookies just to get back to par, so those 5 off would give us 3 Rookie slots. We should probably re-rookie Spargo if no-one picks him up, it's the right thing to do for a player who gets a serious injury in the line of duty.

so it continues ...

Luci, yes I think it's 3 Senior slots, but only 2 A-Rookie slots so far because we have Henderson, Kentfield, AMW and Culley?

The Demon stalwart surpassed the number of his father's appearances for the club towards the end of the season. As he approaches his thirties, his pace is inevitably slowing, and he is likely to explore alternative opportunities beyond the team's midfield.

“Disco” took his time (four seasons) but the mid-season draftee has been a shining light of Melbourne's campaign, improving to become a versatile option at either end of the ground. He has great marking skills which allows him to play as a marking target up forward or an intercepting defender down back.

The skipper delivered another outstanding season, leading the team from the front, participating in every game, and earning club champion honours, while also securing an equal record eighth All-Australian blazer as a ruckman.  Max Gawn is arguably the greatest exponent of ruck skills in the history of the game; an exceptional leader who has guided the club to a premiership, through the challenging times that followed, and now into the next phase of its storied history.

It was a frustrating season for the former number 13 draft selection, who failed to build momentum in his second campaign; Tholstrup played only nine games, having been omitted twice and substituted out three times. However, he demonstrated promising signs in the midfield at Casey towards the end of the season, and big things are anticipated from him in the coming years.

All at Melbourne are eagerly anticipating his resurgence to his previous peak performance levels.
