Real is us playing $500k of the wage next year with no pick return. May's last two games of the year were so poor that he is no value. It would have been better for us he got a 5 week suspension.

Is that the game he got coaches votes, (er vote) in?

He's obviously regressed in speed and mobility from "elite" but he's easily an above average afl full back. He will be replaced with "average" or "below average". Go dees!!!!

Not to mention Tmac played significantly better footy this year than either May or Lever

May generally took the toughest match-up though. I wouldn't like to see TMac on Jamie Elliott.

I think his playing capability is being undersold here by many - I think there's cultural reasons for trading him.

Yes from a remote observer, his cultural issue seems to be wanting to win, intensity and being mouthy. Guess he must also be absolutely toxic in the sheds and on the circuit if he's being asked to leave. Go dees!!!

Most especially since May has a great footy mind and could help coach some of their younger defenders.

North overpaid for bloody Caleb Daniels and Jack Darling but they don’t want May?

Crazy!

Clarko and May would be I disaster together.

Neither of them can control their temper and are both tough as nails

When we re-contracted TMac it was pretty clear we knew May was on the way out. We need some KPB depth: Turner, TMac, Adams, Lever?, Petty?, Derksen? - Lever has been injured a lot, we haven't got Derksen yet and Petty will only be freed up if we get Mihocek or someone similar forward. Recontracting TMac was smart business.

may isnt on the way out unless we find a suitor, so until we do (and so far we haven't) so until we do it isnt good business in my opinion

i mean significantly is probably a stretch, he's a caravan and has been for some time now. coming from a lower ceiling than the other two who were all australian defenders and top 20 players in the comp he might've been closer to par but he certainly wasn't "better" than them it was just a closer call.

no one was flaming may's first 15 weeks the same way we've criticised his last 8, whereas i'd make the argument McDonald played at the same level most of the season and on the second or third forward (turner took one ahead of him too) but because he was coming top 5 in the league for spoils at one point we're acting like he was robbed of a blazer.

can't jump and a liability once the ball hits the ground, may is still the better footballer

May IS happening - firesale - so yes it was good business.

For all those having a crack at May - take a hard look at yourselves. The guys is the toughest and angriest bloke in our team. Its a dying breed in AFL unfortunately . Yes he can be a bit of goon and have tickets on himself, but which player doesnt? Ask yourself: Does he wear glasses to the Brownlow? Does he kick up a stink because he had some ribs broken and stared death right in the face? Did he do a runner from the hospital? Die he ***&*S&D*D& (redacted due to an ongoing Geelong related matters)? NO. He shares his thoughts over exclusive dinners with his teammates and sometimes they dont like what they hear..but its sorted out then and there (he cant help himselves the odd waiter/waitress got caught up in a bit of playfighting).

This bloke said what everyone wanted to hear at the 23 B&F about Collingwood. Even If you dont want to it admit publically, dont kid yourselves because you were proud and agreeable when he said "We would have smoked em". Because we know it to be true, we would have.

If he goes, i'll be little sad because the team would stand up a little taller knowing May was playing full back.

Melbourne fans seem to love to pile on players who they feel no longer meet their expectations.

May is on the wrong side of 30, and has battled a couple of serious injuries this year including concussion.

He was asked to hold a very young defense together for most of the year, with Lever missing so many games. He was also asked to continue to play on quick small forwards, something he’s just not quite capable of doing anymore at his age. That’s hardly surprising.

He is still a very good solid defender one on one. He was instrumental in many of our wins this season. And while there is definitely some cultural question marks over him, he’s always represented our jumper on the field with pride.

But by all means, let’s discuss why we should have delisted him and kept Fullarton instead. Coz I know who I rather as backup in a final 🙄

His turning circle is so large now and his inability to bend down so obvious, he'd be a Manchurian candidate without any need for mind control.

Wool, wool. Thought you'd get in for your chop, eh? No need to ram it home, wether it's punny or not.

We've really got two "6 of one" alternatives:

Trade May for Mihocek and bank the end of 2nd round compo for Spargo. Collingwood forego compo for Mihocek leaving as FA.

Trade May for Collingwood's 2nd rounder (33), take Mihocek as a FA and forego the compo for Spargo. Then Collingwood get compo for Mihocek.

SECOND ROUND FOR SPARGY??? ON WHAT PLANET???

I am surprised May is being let go. While he struggled in some games he also played some good footy & at a pinch they could play him forwards.

You get the impression this was more about culture & his influence on others and surely King would have signed off on the decision.
