Final captain’s run for 2025.

Chocco is here. Right now he’s working one-on-one with Tracc goal-kicking. They had a big hug before they started 🥹

Just want to say thanks @Ghostwriter for all your reports this year. And to others who have reported. I think I have read every single one, and it has been very much appreciated.

A mutual acknowledgement of mutual fate, some might propose/wish/fear, perhaps?

My prediction…

The Judd re-signing announcement will follow shortly after the new coach is announced.

Last week's 23 in attendance this morning plus Aidan Johnson - no other AFL listed players, so expect little or no change to the team tonight. Looks like Xavier Lindsay will not be rushed back in.

Great to see Choco seeing it through - lots of love being shared around.

No soccer game - just loads of goal-kicking practice.

I know it’s unlikely given they’ll want him at Casey where he’s actually playing for something, but having AJ back in the side just to bully Maynard would make me happy.

That would be very late - mid to late September for that announcement according to the Pres.

Bang!

Regular coffee shop closed!!!!!

A lovely day at Goschs with some regular track watchers in attendance. Choco was there, so much for being sacked.

A very casual affair with some players families in attendance. A youngun ran out onto the ground yelling 'Dad'.

Looks like the same squad as last week.

Tom Sparrow has a smooth natural kicking style whereas Traccs is chook lotto.

Chin is very good at his craft, bending them in.

Jones 'trains' like he wants to play.

See you all at pre season training.

So sad saying goodbye to Chocco. Thanked him sincerely for all he’s done for us and wished him well for whatever the future holds. But before I started talking, he thanked me; a really warm and heartfelt thank you. I said I’ll still love him when he’s with another club. He said he doesn’t think anyone will be interested in taking him onboard. I’ve never seen him humble. I’ve also never had anywhere near a serious conversation with him so the whole interaction was difficult. It would’ve been easier had we just hung sch!ttt on each other like usual.

Just tell him to throw his big body around the thug.

Thanks GW for all your stories and trips to Gosch's to bring us the latest. I feel like I'm 12 years old whenever i read your snippets of interactions with the team and coaches.

If the whole team went in the way Williams used to go through, we would win by 50Points plus.

Thanks mate for the Flag for us from back 64.

That would’ve been LMac, Tmac’s son Leo. Tmac’s fam attend training sessions a lot because Leo insists on going. He loves being there.

I always ask little Dees kids who their favourite player is. One time Leo was standing nearby so I asked him who his favourite player is. I expected him to say “My dad.” Instead he said, “Tom McDonald, number 25, Demons.”

So formal 😁

That’s a sign of the times re our problems and finishing position

Shirley, goal kicking practise should be had a t the start of the year and middle of the year.

Like being fit, if your not fit at the end of the season you have not been pushing hard enough

Doesnt mean you shouldn't be working on it the last training session either.

I'm sure I'm in a tiny minority here but, if we're about to delist Jack Billings, I'll be disappointed if he isn't given the respect of a final AFL game.

A 12 year AFL career is nothing to be sneezed at and, unlike Lachie Hunter, he has been highly professional and committed since he arrived at the club.

I'm sure he would offer more than Sharp tomorrow night, to name just one of many serial underperformers.

You are right. But we have been terrible at kicking goals all year ,

And huge thanks to all the track watchers I read it all twice to feel twice as good

As others have said, thank you for sharing these reports all year. I’ve read them all and look forward to them.

Interesting on that—I read the news of him leaving late last night and it was something with Kane Cornes. Cornes was effusively praising him and basically telling all clubs that Chocco has his phone on and is open to work. I know he coached him, but it felt weird to see all that coming from him… I’ve not been here when he was playing so all I’ve seen is his shock jock side.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
