Bring him in with Bartel as head of footy?

Charles Darwin, the "survival of the fittest" and a lion brutally claiming a wildebeest come to mind.

Darwin would argue such brutality is necessary for evolution to the fittest, smartest, strongest.

This is where the CEO of the AFL Coaches Association, ex-Demon backman Alistair Nicholson, becomes important. The AFLCA is well rehearsed in this scenario. Alistair will ensure Goody feels supported and taken care of from a mental wellbeing POV. The head coaches have such a huge workload they don't speak to their fellow head coaches so much in-season. But on occasions like this, they will send messages of warmth and care. There's a sense of "There but for the grace of God go I."

Alistair will ensure Goody is mentored through all this by an ex-coach. Alistair will check in frequently with the mentor and mentee.

Alistair will also help with Goody's next phase in the AFL industry when the timing is right.

Simon is still only 48. Given his MFC coaching premiership and his two premierships as Crows captain, he will have impact and bring wisdom where ever he goes next.

Godspeed Goodwin.

While I was surprised by the announcement this morning, the bandaid has been torn off moving forward, but I would like to say thanks for your time and effort, and you will always be in the history books as a premiership coach, and that can never be taken away.
Sometimes in life you believe in something so hard you lose sight of the end game and get caught up with it and are unable to see what the problem is, which I'm afraid happened with Goodwin, and therefore his downfall. It will be interesting to see what direction the club takes.

I suspect we used an outside PR/crisis management firm to draft it.

I hope not. Having done that work at one of those firms previously, MFC should ask for their money back if they paid someone external for that.

That letter reeks of a comms team caught off guard and asked to draft something up on extremely short notice without the proper editing and approvals processes in place.

He cannot surely be that dense. He must have surely seen the writing on the wall after the Saints loss. There was no coming back from that.

He was simply incapable of fixing our forward line problems and that was his downfall

In short he just came to the end of being effective. It happens Thats not really a knock on him ( not intended ) just a what is..is... type of thing.

We move on.

Go Dees

From memory the Clubs values mention the words. Trust, Respect, Unity & Excellence.

Values if they mean anything get tested and assessed in difficult times particularly when decisions affect people.

Are they lived values or merely motherhood statements? .

The forward line coach couldn't fix it either, and now he's the coach.

Is Stuart Dew available? He was Roosey's first choice as successor before Goody landed the job.

D day updates:

Goodwin is furious and feels the rug was pulled from underneath him from recent promises.

Petracca the first player alongside Culley to arrive at The G for Goodys press conference.

Paul Guerra leaving his day job at short notice to provide his presence at the G for the presser.

Yeah he looks pretty annoyed in this presser

Richo being involved in the decision doesn't give me any comfort. He hasn't exactly done a lot right recently either.

As tough as it is, the decision had to be made. Sad to see him go after so much blood, sweat and tears.

But the facts are, Goodwin had a grade A list and since the flag he said every year we will compete, suffered back to back straight sets exits, and as we speak, staring down back to back bottom 6 finishes, with not as much injuries opposed to other clubs.

Fans and club should feel aggrieved. No other professional sport, club or code would tolerate back to back underperformances, let alone the 4 years Goodwin got since the flag.

He will be gone.

Caro tipping Adam Simpson to take over Richo.

Making it all the more wrong if he was involved in this decision.

Helped deliver our 13th premiership, so automatically goes down as a great in MFC history.

Time for change was well overdue though. Had it not been for his contract extension by Roffey and Pert (and ratified by the board it must be said), he should’ve departed at the end of last year.

We very much need a new voice to lead us forward, and I suspect a sweeping change in assistants.

Not a time for celebration, but the circuit breaker desperately needed.

Thanks Simon

Simon carrying himself very well at the presser.

Should be proud of himself

I just wonder if Richo has also accepted his fate.

Was a board decision. I doubt Richo had a say. He just went over to be there for Goody when they delivered the news is my read
