So many dodgy frees around the wing area too with the ball a 50/50 and us winning the contest/clearance. Instead of a stoppage (or a free to us which was missed) they get one and go deep inside 50. Absolutely disgusting and they get that treatment every week.

Kosi was completely correct to expect a free for him running too far.

Just as in the last Pies were paid marks that travelled at best 10m.

In a game decided by a bloody point, a side having nearly 30% more free kicks is diabolical.

29-20 is nearly 50% more, not 30%, which makes it far more diabolical in a one point loss.

With the game in the balance no leaders were present. That said, the game shouldn’t have come down to the final minutes.

This result makes season 25 very difficult to come back from. But stranger things have happened. Play like that against port and we’ll have the 4 points.

During the warm-up before the game, I watched JVR practising shooting for goal at the Richmond end. I saw his last four shots. 1: 45m out on a slight angle to the left: missed. 2: 35m out on the same angle: missed. 3: 25m out on the same angle: missed. 4: 30m out on the same angle : got it. In the end it didn't matter. He didn't get a shot at goal that I can recall.

FD got so many match ups right, boys played their hearts out but will rue moments where they didn’t control what they can control and it cost them

And at no point did I say the club should focus on the umpiring in their review.

However that passage of play should have resulted in a free to us. Whether Kosi is asking for it or not. He ran way too far in a critical moment in the game. It was obvious to everyone who watched it except the umpires. But sure, let’s highlight the Melbourne player for yet another umpiring mistake. Because only Daicos is apparently allowed to ask the umpires for frees and then get them.

Melksham also totally at fault for letting Moore push him into a contest. If only he stood his ground instead of being sandwiched between two guys!

If it was the other way you can guarantee it would've been paid (remember Rankine last year?)

Umpiring was at best, a debacle. Even a few neutrals nearby were completely confused by some of the decisions today. Trying to explain the rules to a non AFL follower today was not easy.

I thought we did a lot right but failed again with our connection to the forward half. The same thing that we’ve struggled with for 3 years.

What I also found disappointing at times was the safe, kick it long down the line type of play. We have zero swagger and dare. There were so many times that we could’ve tried a switch or gone shorter but opted for the good old fashioned down the line kick. The Collingwood players could see it unfolding.

Re Turner, I appreciate our requirement for a key forward. We’ve needed one since Jesse was booted. We got BBB as a rental for a couple of seasons but nobody has really stepped forward. No pun intended. My question is, do we compromise Disco’s development as a key back when he could turn out as our Tom Stewart? Ask anyone involved with Geelong and they will tell you, outside of Selwood, Stewart has been the most important player down there.

We’ve invested top 20 draft picks in forwards, let them play. Let’s see what we have and how to complement them come 2025 trade week. Prior to that, drop Petty. Bring in TMac to play forward as the younger guys will clearly need the support. Make Petty compete with May and Lever for a spot down back.

In the next 4 games, we should prioritise system and experience. Play younger players in roles they might graduate to next year. Roll the dice and see if we can move the ball in a way that helps our forwards. 2025 is over. The sooner the coaches let go of finals aspirations the better.

Get over it Brown said nothing wrong, you play to the whistle it’s what you teach players from a young age.

Control what you can control and he didn’t

It’s an emotional game I get it and it’s especially emotional for you as far as Collingwood is concerned.

Given our midfield doesn’t kick to leads we’ve probably got the best combination of talls available right now.

JVR, should never had been played this week. Form at Casey was average against the two bottom teams. IMO he only came because Johnson was rubbed out.

Its hard to keep composure and not make dumb decisions when you are frustrated and uncertain of the umpiring decisions.

You play with confidence when you know you will bw given the dvantage by the umpiring and obviously no confidence when you know you are not going to get support from the umpire. The club needs to address this with the AFL and the umpires. NOt blaming the umps but asking what can we do to remove the uncertainty, frustration and subsequent poor action coming from the apparent confusion. Even commentators are expressing their views and it will be interesting to hear how the "footy shows " ie agenda setters address it.
