JVR wasn’t selected because they probably want him to produce a strong block of form in the twos , build some confidence and work on a few things then come in if he shows consistency.

It’s the best way to handle an out of form player.

Had a decent game last week , let’s see it again.

99.5% of Dees supporters, members and fanatics had JVR as back in. Kicked 5 goals, led up strongly, back home in WA, ruck relief if needed.

But MFC selectors go with a 33yr old in his last year of footy with no form and coming back from injury. I love milkshake but it’s not the right call imv. McGovern will intercept everything

Have to trust the “ inside the four walls” decision but seemingly it’s a very strange call

Um, i think Goody really wants to.....................

Nup, i got nothing

Anyone care to guess which umpire will be officiating on Saturday night? I’ll give you a clue: his name is NATHAN WILLIAMSON, he wears #22 and he HATES MELBOURNE.

Did they provide same treatment to Bayley Fritsch?

I thought the aim of sending a player to Casey to try to recapture their form involved keeping them there for a substantial amount of time, even if they kick a bag in one game.

As for Melk, “coming back from injury” doesn’t really apply here. He had a gash in his skin, not a soft tissue or muscle injury. They kept him out for a week so as not to run the risk of infection.

Give us something different at least.. Brown, Laurie, heck even Sestan who's been in excellent form.

Selection integrity is at an all time low.

Selection integrity like Fullarton killing for 3 weeks at casey? why won’t stubborn Goodwin play him we yell. turns out he is not very good aside from decent ruck support. We obviously can’t play TC with Gawn as neither can play fwd at all

Agree Sharp has been poor but no worst than when ANB was learning his trade. His aerobic ability is worth the effort for a while perhaps

We have a little confidence building so the less changes the better

JVR is 21. reckon he needs some confidence so i don’t mind a couple of weeks at casey

Fritsch has 250+ goals under his belt so is a different prospect to manage

THE KISS. Am I the only Demonlander who spotted the influence of the Kolt Kiss? There is no way the Kolt can be dropped. He dispersed his kisses sparingly last week, but now every Demon forward will be vying to earn a Kolt Kiss, and I believe that will encourage them to tackle harder, lead more often and - important, this - kick straighter. THE KOLT MUST STAY IN THE TEAM.

if you had to pick one bloke to play on McGovern it would be….

Milkshake.

plays the fwd defensive role better than most

*still think we are too small overall but fingers crossed

Most of that rain will be in the morning. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a dry game by night time.

if that’s the case then why did Fritta come back last week after only one week at Casey after a very very avg game (and I am Being kind).

The Kolt Kiss is also unleashed when Kolt is the one who kicks a goal. After he kicked a goal last week he kissed Fritta on the neck. Kisses for everyone! Kisses aplenty! ‘Twas raining kisses 👄 👄 👄👄👄

Fritta came in coz Melks was out.

Also I think Fritta was dropped not so much to regain form, but to send a message to the entire team, including Fritta himself. That’s how I saw it.

Don’t think JVR and Melk were really competing for the same spot.

With our new game plan, I think we need Melk with his great kicking and fast ball movement.

But I am surprised we are going so short up front

He’ll play as a defensive forward on either McGovern to prevent intercepts or on Reid who has been playing off half back

The comparison to ANB even if you were comparing back to his earlier career is actually a slap to the face to Nibbler.

Sharp should not even be remotely be compared to Sharp at any length or put in the same category. ANB even in his debut year showed more promise than Sharp has his entire career, we all saw the glimpses especiallyafter his 3 goal effort against Geelong. By Nibblers 3rd year he had consolidated himself as a best 22 player in our line-up.

Sharp is barely suburban level standard and hasn't shown any glimpse or ability that makes you think he'll grow into a solid AFL career.

Nah hang on.. see thats where selection integrity has to be questioned.

Why should certain players get a far more better leeway treatment compared to the guy that actually played into form unlikethe guy that didn't and still got a call up. Not only did he get a call up but his lack of defensive pressure and 0 tackles was once again on show.

Our tackling forward half pressure against Fremantle was the best i had seen since close to 2021 early 2022. That's why it made complete sense why both JVR and Fritsch were dropped.

What didn't make sense and is even more perplexing, is that you give one bloke only a week in the reserves who mind you was still poor, compared to the guy in his second VFL level actually hits form with scoreboard pressure.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the need for a fully in form Fritsch is still important to our line up.. but he still needs to earn his way back like every other Joe blow has to in the reserves and prove how desperate he is to earn his sport. I did not see that once when he played against GWS in the VFL.

The Kolt. I think I have figured his genealogy. At first, I though the Kolt must have been related to the 1980s adventurer Hans Tholstrup. Hans was the first person to circumnavigate Australia in an open power boat and the first person - along with 6 times Bathurst winner Larry Perkins, who built the machine with brother Garry - to cross the continent in an electric vehicle. But, then I thought the Kolt has a better resemblance to someone who could have been his grandfather. Is the spirit of Harpo alive and well in the Demon forward line?

That’s the forecast although it’s changing, think they’ll see how the weather is and potentially make a late change

Yet you actually criticised Goodwin for dropping Fritsch for the Fremantle game

The selections make sense if Turner is played forward (even though he impressed as a defender V Freo)

The selections don’t make sense if Turner is played down back.

Because we suck, WC suck so we get the umpires that suck. This selection along with Eleni was highly predictable.

I think we can remember ANB being the whipping boy for years. DL wanted him delisted etc. A lot of fans weren’t convinced even by 2020. Again, not saying Sharp is the answer but he has similar traits. given some game time he might develop his game.

And on Fritsch - he’s kicked 250+ goals in 6 seasons. we need him. He is not your regular footy player. He gets in over a kid who hasn’t proved himself in finals

Not saying it’s right. just how i see it

But I do admit you know footy better than me, played it and coached it - neither of which ive done so i appreciate your opinion even if i seem argumentative at times

Controversial opinion on demonland, but I don’t think Fritsch has been too bad. Except his uncharacteristic inaccuracy.

(And that’s before factoring in that he’s a new dad and might not be getting a good night sleep - personally I can’t imagine having to front up to play football in the first two weeks of our first child’s birth. Second was less stressful. Once you both realise their little but quite resilient even at that tender age 😁)

I dont see those traits in Sharp at all so we'll agree to disagree.

Also, this last paragraph is in my kind opinion, pretty irrelevant on any footy related discussion regardless on what level of footy I've played at.

My views on footy should be seen as equal to yours and every other footy head on here Dub.

43 minutes ago, Pennant St Dee said:

I did after he laid 5 tackles and kicked 2 goals against Essendon.

I thought finally he was heading on the right track until Goodwin said he needed to work on his defensive side of the game in a press game interview against Freo.. confusing, but okay..

Thats why each week selection becomes confusing. I then watch him against GWS in the VFL and he barely got out of second gear and laid 1 tackle for the whole game.

You then can't tell me his selection was justified off the back of that performance compared to JVR's 5 goal effort against Richmond.

Once again this also shows the complete lack of support for Max Gawn regardless of how well he's playing. Matthew Lloyd was correct last week, the fact that we are still heavily relying on a 33 year champ who's got no back up whatsoeveris a huge concern.

Petty is not a ruckman at all and we saw that last year when he got absolutely monstered by Darcy, so I have no idea what plan B is when Gawn needs a spell or heavin forbid he gets injured.
