This has probably been touched on elsewhere, but not overly obviously.

In Goodwin's presser yesterday, he made a point that the first quarter needs to be got right.

But what about this in the first 5 rounds?...

Us 1.2, them 3.4

Us 1.2, them 8.1

Us 2.2, them 6.2

Us 0.3, them 4.2

Us 2.2, them 5.1

Yep, the last quarters, outscored by 20 goals.

Little to no media questioning. Little to no acknowledgement.

Dont know how you can listen to Goodwin speaks claptrap in my view and currently adding nothing to the success and improvement of the team Don't care whether is first quarter or the infamous third quarter Good win is completely cooked and is only just holding on coaching for hiscareer not the club

Sometimes people who are motivated by hatred will identify themselves by really obviously scraping the barrel for any excuse to make new grunts of rage.

"We need to get our first quarters right. They set the tone. We don't want to be chasing all game."

=

"Simon Goodwin is insane and there is a massive media conspiracy to cover it up."

I was actually interested in thoughts about the last quarters. The presser / first quarter reference was just a sort of context introduction to that, which I now regret...

Well, it's not the 3rd !!!!🙄

Please don’t regret anything you post, J… not when there’s a truckload of regrettable posts for which no one expresses regret, but for which they should.

Tim, I don't think we've got the wherewithal to do much by the last qtr. We're already cooked by then.

We've manage 5 goals (total) in 5 games in the final qtr beggars belief.

5 goals

I've been crying out for the media to ask this question the last 2 weeks in the post game pressers but they're either not aware of the trend or don't care to ask the question.

If it's fitness, Griffiths's position needs to be looked at.

If it's lack of care or will by the players, then the head coach needs to be looked at.

I know it didn't make a difference to the result but letting Essendon blow the final margin out from 27 to 39 points in the space of 30 seconds is completely unacceptable.

Against Essendon we just guarded grass in the last and let them chip the ball around. A more ridiculous way to try and win I am yet to see. I doubt it was particularly tiring although I found it very draining.

Stop belittling our boys Beelz - its 6 goals in 5 games, not 5!

True. I really can't fault Goody's quote here. It would also be ludicrous to deny the last quarter stats. The one thing is establishing a lead by the fourth quarter can inspire players to push through the late-game pain and conversely can slow down the opponents. The only game I really thought we could win come Q4 was vs the Giants (and I think was the only one where we were leading). I dont think it's coincidence that was our best last quarter.

Last quarters

V Giants 1.2

V Roos 1.2

V Suns 2.2

V Cats 0.3

V Ess 1.2

5 goals 😉

I have certainly been aware of our abhorrent last Quarters

5 Goals to 20….

NOT FIT ENOUGH

Goodwin not promising miracles by saying we can win a final qtr, to be ahead at qtr time will be novel enough

If all was truly well and happy I dare say we’d still be in the game in most last quarters and be pushing to close down any 3 qtr margins, as I feel that’s what we did in 2021 when behind (will need to check that). Same as Collingwood did in their premiership year.

It’s pretty clear that after the players have been pumping the ball inside 50 all day and generally equaling our opponents in that stat, they see the writing on the wall and say ‘what’s the point’ - it’s been this way for 2.5 seasons (if not longer) and the dam wall has broken. It seems inevitable when in this position to know that the other team will score easily against our constant ‘banging our head against the wall’.

Most Dees fans have had enough so can we really blame the players?!

For once, this need not be a matter of opinion. The players can be hooked up while on the exercise bike. A good question for the Board to ask.

Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
