Tune in to SEN from 9-10 for VFL hour.

Interview with Michael Newton amongst others.

Perhaps he might even fill us in on the broader detail of his "long-term plan".

Short interview:

- Sounded nervous during the interview, yet pretty confident in his ability

- When he gets a game he says "it will be a long time coming"

- Says he has taken a big step up from last year because Daniher told him to go in harder at the ball

- Likes working with Nick Sautner, gives him so good advice tips.

That's pretty much it I think.

Can't disagree with that..........

Anything in there about Neale's "long-term development plan"??

I liked his honesty, he said he isn't always hard enough at the contest, and he needs to learn to eliminate that.

Until he does, Daniher is 100% correct in not debuting him.

He hardly sounded annoyed about not getting a game, rather settled and comfortable with where he is at.

And definitely agree on the need for media training...

I liked that Danners told him that he had to become harder and work on his 1 %ers. They were easily his biggest failings. I thought it was important to note that 07 was his 1st injury free preseason.

A decent interview requires competency from both the interviewer and interviewee, we certainly didnt get that so I will let Michael off the hook.

That was VERY interesting...

Gee he was honest about needing to get harder.... also put paid to the rumours that Daniher has never actually spoken to him...

But I think we may have got the tiiiiiiiiniest glimpse of why he might be being held back...

He sounded more intelligent than your average footballer, but my goodness was he ever nervous! He got to the point that he stuttered so much he forgot his point! While he was in the middle of "football talk!"

I'm not saying that was the answer to the question... but it was a fascinating interview...

For a mountain of a lad, he sounds like he should be in a Harry Potter movie!

Oh, and I liked how he described Nick Sautner.... he said he was "pretty good" about 18 times. Not great. Not below average. Not crap. Just "pretty good"

Basically Danners said to him "look Leigh, mate, I know you can take a big mark and kick a goal but I'm not gonna give youse a game until you can show me a bit more hardness at the ball and I want you to get better with the one-percenters, you know the chases and tackles, the team things, but keep playing your natural game, go for your marks, go for everything".

He admitted disappointment at the promotion of Garland, Petterd and Frawley ahead of him and deemed this a "set-back".

I suggest the supposed secret long-term plan is a lot of quasi-esoteric nonsense, Neale just wants a player who embodies the character and application of his present Captain.

In hindsight, Garland getting a game in front of him was harsh but he wasn't going so well at that stage. Looks like it might have given him a bit of a kick up the bum.

I hope we get to see a bit of him soon. I would hate to see him become disenchanted and leave without us being able to see if he really is up to it or if it is all just hype afterall.

Garland getting a game completely contradicts all the arguments of why Newton hasn't played yet. I would be devastated if he left without the opportunity that alot of other lesser quality players have been given on our list.

No need to panic.

Juice is contracted for next year, and the promotion of Garland was probably as much about giving Newton a kick up the bum, as it was about giving Garland some much needed confidence.

Garland was always going to debut and get dropped, I think the idea with Juice is to bring him in and have him stay for good. At least that's the hope!

One day he will have massive shoes to fill, and if he isn't going full speed at every contest, he won't get so much as a toe in.

How did he get the nickname juice?

Back in Garry Lyon's time there was a singer going around called Juice Newton. Leigh Newton was on the list at the time and was given the monicker 'Juice'. When Michael Newton arrived, Leigh was, and still is, at the club; 'Juice' was passed on to him.

Media manager.

strange that he holds down the positions of ruck coach and media manager. i thought he was the ruck coach, this was confirmed recently on 'ology, but i cant find it on the mfc website anywhere...can anyone confirm it?

also if he does have these dual roles its not a surprise that the vic clubs are so far behind the interstaters is it?

Ruck coach is a part time position that would take up a few hours at worst a week. No club has a full time ruck coach as far as I'm aware,

I know Sam wasn't doing it for any more than a few hours a week when he was at the club.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
