Jackson is still young (24 in September) - barring serious injury he'll play another eight to ten seasons.

I could see Max playing three more seasons after this year.

That takes Jackson to 27 years old, hitting his peak, with still another six or seven seasons left in his career as the number one ruck. Perfect

I reckon Maxy struggled to find synergy with Grundy in large part because he wants to be the man. Super competitive, he'd be happy to take every ruck contest.

But it seemed to work better Jackson. And if they can make it work it might help to extend Maxy's career.

Keeping Koz and getting Jackson in would be a game changer.

All that said, how good would it be to get Jackson AND keep JVR.

What is Rivers trade value? Again I would prefer not to have to use JVR or Rivers and definitely not McVee but would absolutely love to get LJ back

As big a blow as it would be lose Jackson, Freo are well placed to cover the loss.

Darcy is a terrific ruck (though his injuries are becoming a worry) and up forward they have Amiss and Traecy.

And trading Jackson would really help with their salary cap, will surely must be an issue given the contracts Bolton, Serong, Brayshaw, Young are on and Amiss and Traecy will demand.

Two future firsts and a decent WA player like McVee or JVR might get them somewhere close.

If he wants out they will have to weigh up the risks of forcing him to stay - they'd want to be confident he'd perform to a high level.

I would prefer to jettison JVR if it is necessary to part with someone to get Jackson. McVee and Rivers (in order) are much more important to us and far better players in their positions.

Problem is Freo doesn’t need a lead up Tall Forward with Tracey and Amiss.

I am not against JVR as a concept - I am just not sold on his instincts as a forward and his ability to utilise space with his leading patterns. He is still a project in my view. He is lucky that he is at the Dees with our plethora of NQR talls up forward.

Also, if we have around $4m+ of the cap in CO13, CP5, and KP36, then something might have to give to get Jackson (or anyone).

Well not really because the better he plays the more he will be worth at the trade table.

Of course one has to ask themselves, how can a club with net zero forwards, trade away their only consistent goal kicker?

JVR is overrated by many and I think some of his early career games gave some false hope to some on here.

He is an undersized key position utility who played his footy as that, a utility before drafted. And his under 18's year was mostly played as a key defender. An important couple of facts that people miss.

He is most certainly not a natural forward. His positioning, leading patterns and overhead marking are simply not at the level that some would like to believe.

So I think it's more about lowering expectations with him.

As for the hypothetical of a Jackson trade, you'd simply have to entertain it. Jackson has far more upside given his talents and attributes. And I agree with others on Riv and Judd being too important and embedded in our group. Having said that, you'd hope losing JVR for Jackson wouldn't cause unrest in the group and they're obviously factors that will all be weighed up at the end of the year.

The positive is that whenever a player wants to leave due to personal reasons, the club that player leaves from ultimately accepts unders. And with the addition of being able to trade up to two years in advance, we may not have to give up a young player like JVR.

I do think someone will have to go though in order to clear some money and get in some more picks for getting creative. An Oliver and Fritsch would do it for me. (Fritsch out of contract at the end of this year too I believe which is interesting).

Why so keen on Jackson? He's good, but I'd prefer McVee, and I believe JVR is going to be epically good at some point.

Who cares about Jackson. Don't throw out the team mix we have now. Jackson left us. We shouldn't beg steal and borrow to get him.

I really rate Treacy, and he is in ripping form this season.JVR's career numbers are comparable to Treacy, who is a season ahead (and almost a year older) than Roo:

So why is he so poor this year? Even at Casey his only good games were against a very poor Preston and an almost as bad Sydney. I know we will never agree on JVR but this year his form does not justify a place in the senior side. How long do we have to wait in 2025.
