He's playing a VFL practice match next week.

Average player injured. Has contributed very little for 2 seasons. There are more talented players around now. He will find it difficult get a game in 2025.

Ease up on the negativity in February. A healthy Spargs has plenty to contribute

Although no idea what they’ll do with the bench if they go an extra tall or use Parker and Zurhaar as talls.

A much stiffer backline than North have rolled out in recent years. Super talented young midfield and some weapons up forward.

Should beat us comfortably. They are pretty much full strength.

It is deeply concerning that he is still injured and not playing this weekend.

He trained freely with the "early (non-playing) group" today so he is much much closer to having a run. He was not in rehab with the others today. Tomorrow was probably just too early, particularly considering the outcome of his participation in Round Zero last year.

I can't wait for footy.

I'm sure like most here, I enjoy watching other teams but nothing beats the joy of us winning

Last year was so painful.

Id gotten so used to winning.

I hope we can bounce back.

And prior to that....losing two double chances in consecutive years was a really poor effort.

We really should have won that final against Pies. Selection was really messed up. Goody dropped the ball. No way around it.

The sub had played a few games and then was forced to play in a huge final. Wow... Simon Simon Simon.

And not playing Grundy too was strange.

But losing Milksham and then Gus was just the ultimate straw.

Even then we almost won.

Given the age and injuries of all our fwds...the club failed also in not recruiting a big experienced fwd.

I fear it may be the case this year.

I hope it's not.

Years of footy doldrums for us Demon supporters had lulled me into a almost accepting failure.

So to be on top for so many years made footy a whole new ballgame so to speak.

Let's hope it happens again and we play finals this year.

In any case it's been a long time between goals.

See you all on game day.

How I'd line them up:

FB: Petty McDonald Howes
HB: Bowey Lever Hore
C; Billings Rivers Lindsay
HF: Sharp JVR Sparrow
FF: Chandler Turner Langford
Foll: Campbell Oliver Pickett
Int: Laurie, AMW (Sestan), Woey, AJ

That team is missing 9 of our starting 18, including some all-time greats of the MFC, and it's still better than some Melbourne teams I've seen run around this century.

Why do people care if we win or not?

We have 11 of our best 25 out but not many serious injuries

We want to see our kids and new guys

Get our game plan going and get match fitness

I'm looking forward to seeing how our forwards AJ and Jeffo go but am a little concerned that without some of our best midfielders involved how often the ball will get down there. Some opposition sides virtually walked the ball out of the centre in the back end of last season.

Looking at the two squads, ours looks considerably more depleted. But a golden opportunity for fringe players

Maybe sub a few off at half time. Missing many of our best backline rebounders will hurt but hopefully the midfield can win enough of the pill to at least give the forwards a crack at it.

How isn’t Jefferson making this team.::?

Who cares godees as it is only a match sim, and we get to see most of our youngsters and others that have come into our club. I'm excited to see what they can do, and the end result has no bearing on our chances this year.

No of course not, BUT incorrect information is confusing useless and exactly what I have pointed out from D/Lers on occasions.

And the ones  that stated pointing the bone at the website are in effect criticising paid employees that work completely differently to the opinions of some amateurs.

Two ridiculous cheap shots this week were no Henderson recognition of Dees selecting for about 24 hours.
Secondly was the delay in information on the Casey match after the AFL Match and simulation on the website.

MFC generally is not the major news source for the Casey matches however today when the match times were changed due to the expected extreme heat this was followed up with mention of the Casey match afterwards.

Pointedly was information of the train and tram details from a station allied with the tram no. As the best to get to Arden St plus match details the lack of shade etc.

Demonland got confused the station and no tram and although I lived in Melbourne for over 40 years from 1948 the station/s and tram would not have altered in my nearly 77 years.  Arden St has not moved either in 70 odd years.

My only criticism of the website is that the headline for the North AFL match could have been about the time commencement change from 11AM to 10AM.

That  is the role of the website ( like bringing interviews and articles about players and correct and reliable advice on match times transport )

DLand is a discussion and opinion forum with variety of posts but not necessarily the detailed official information.

So my point is get your info where you want to but don’t be upset if it’s the wrong source or is incorrect.

However cheap shots on the speed of the website are ill founded and petty. The timing is allied to the process through the AFL not the discussion or potential of an event like on Demonland. The media also prioritise this approach and have for ever and a day

Failure to understand these roles causes most of the reasons for confusion when it is a simple situation.

WTF are you rambling on about??

GAMEDAY: Match SIM vs North Melbourne

After an agonizingly long off-season the 2025 AFL Premiership Season is almost upon us and the Demons have their first practice hit out against the Kangaroos in a match simulation out at Arden Street. The Demons will take on the Kangaroos in match simulation play, starting from 10am AEDT and broadcast live on Foxtel and Kayo. The play start time was brought forward from the initial 11am bounce, due to the high temperatures forecast.  The match sim will consist of four 25-minute qu

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
