Unfortunately, it is true.

Max was keen to get Grundy before Grundy arrived. Max was never gonna “sacrifice his role.” Ever.

And TC… he was brought in to “give Max a chop out” not to be a standby should Max get injured, which is all he’s ever been.

It’s a difficult thing to discuss because god forbid anyone should say anything negative about Max… he’s untouchable.

Max gets what Max wants. Whether that’s right or wrong… it’s the truth.

The whole conversation(s) between Max and Goodwin about Grundy will be a full chapter in Max’s memoirs.

He didn’t want Grundy initially.

It didn’t work out. In large part because Gawn couldn’t play forward and felt like he was being wasted.

I love Max but I think you could make an argument that the trade for Grundy exposed a few chinks in his armour and the relationship between he and Goodwin.

I know this. But when I’ve mentioned it before I’ve been howled down. Like I said, Max is untouchable.

No one person is bigger than the club, as the saying goes. But Max is likely the closest you’ll get to the exception to the rule.

Well, when you are the best ruck in the AFL and the only one in our club, that is not surprising.

Well if that is the case GW, then im not surprised at the state of the playing group.

He will be the best ruckman in the competition of all time by the time he is done. As much as you would expect humility in that, i think any average Joe/Jane would struggle without letting it get to their heads in some way. Not an excuse - just an observation.

I honestly feel like as much as Max is a superstar and a great asset to the club, we’re going to eventually find ourselves in a world of pain because we simply don’t have a solid back up for him if he is to get injured or even when he decides to retire. And that may not be too far in the future. We’ve done a bit of a disservice to both Max and the rest of the team (not to mention supporters, etc).

The other part is (and I want to do a bit of research), if I were a player with a contract in front of me, I may also hold off signing because honestly, as much as it seems like a CEO, President, or Board instability may not impact players or their performance, I’d imagine it does. I get that lots of people believe Goodwin needed to go—but, he’s a piece in a larger system. If he felt like it was unstable or if he didn’t get what he needed from the administration, that would flow on to players—maybe not verbally, but behaviours etc. In terms of what I want to research, it’s more about what that impact lack of governance and stability could potentially have on player performance. I have no idea if I’ll find anything. I’m just a geek with things like that. I spent a long time last year checking stats to see how frequently over the last 5 years the team that scored first won the game—there was nothing to it, but I had a theory 😂

In terms of the players having too much input into things, that may also go back to what I said above. If as a coach you don’t have a solid system backing you, habits can develop that aren’t beneficial.

Caro soon to report friction between a prominent cheer squad member and the club captain.

Stay tuned for more…

Back to the actual topic ...

My take on Judd is that he will stay, pending our new coach announcement.

Any signing right now would give the media reason to claim Judd (and by extension other players) were unhappy with Goodwin or his game plan.

Signing after our new coach announcement would show his support for the new coach and future of the club.

Assuming he does sign!!

Max would have been a great ruck-forward and that would have him play till he's 40 but unfortunately he's playing for all Australian honours

Thread derailed by a bunch of [censored] complaining that Gawns a good player!

I hope he does sign but to be honest I won't judge him for wanting out

Grundy was a square peg that we tried fitting into a Jackson gaping round hole.

I dont know why people are so worried about not signing early, he is contracted to the end of the year and he will sign when he does or not.

I think he will re sign, but if he doesnt. Thats his call.

Think Howe played like 5 games up forward then Collingwood got some injuries and Buckley was like "oh well". He's never seen the forwardline since lol.

Roos always knew he wasn't a forward.

Not to derail the thread..but if Howe had the same output for us in 2025 as the years he was a forward for MFC ( his first 3 years), he would have have the same output as jvr and petty combined right now. All in a team that won 5 4 and 2 games.

Yes, but does that mean the end of the AFL Home and Away Season, after the Grand Final, the end of the AFLW season, after the B&F, after the AGM, December generally or December 31st? Just asking for a couple of journo friends.

That's grim haha. Howe was more fun with us anyway. Lost a lot of his leap when he went to Collingwood.

When someone else says exactly what you wanna say but are too chicken-sch!ttt to say it yourself.

Max was right to doubt the Grundy trade. If anything it exposes that Goodwin didn't really know how to handle Jackson leaving.

The delay in signing is starting to stink.

Another BS we don’t need right now.

If I were the club I would withdraw the offer. What is he waiting for? Must have a high opinion of himself!

But he also has more career behinds than goals.

Except for the fact that he is a shocking kick at goal.

Oh, don’t get me wrong… I don’t expect humility from Max. Nobody should. He’s human and of course he’s aware of his myriad incredible achievements. But it also makes sense that at times this can serve as detrimental to the club, particularly his teammates, who are also human. After all, when it comes to human behaviour…

He’s actually a very humble person. He clearly has reasons for stalling, the club may also be behind the delay of the announcement, but it’s unfair for you or anyone else to question his character based on what journalists are surmising.

What reason would the club possibly have to delay announcing that he has re-signed?

We leak like a broken sieve, if he had signed I can't imagine we'd be able to keep it away from the media for more than a few minutes.

Tom Morris is hiding in Judd's bushes probably

I think we have got Curnow, McKay H.Reid all but sewn up. We also had NAS's in the bag but when he backed out last minute, our media department had to redraft the whole comms announcement... I beleive we are just waiting back from the graphics dept before its made official on socials.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
