Cricket Australia is looking down the barrel at a Meth Coke level rebuild. They should have begun the process 12 months ago, but instead we had to have the Cheats Farewell tour.
We now have a huge problem

One name not mentioned anywhere is Josh Blanksby who left MRC recently.

He was mentioned when Richmond were hunting for a CEO.

I don’t think he is right (no footy background and he seemingly was a big part of the botch-job of the Caulfield redevelopment) but I am surprised he hasn’t been floated due to his intimate knowledge of Caulfield/the Trust and our clear ambitions there.

Another person with a similar history to Josh Blanksby is Andrew Giles, CEO of VicRoads. Before that he was CEO of Racing Victoria and before that CEO of Betfair (Josh Blanksby also worked for Betfair). I'm not sure what would be easier - mending potholes or player relationships.

Giles Thompson.  Famous for letting V’landys walk all over racing Vic and near-ruin our Spring racing carnival.

gerard healy offered up two names - justin rodski (current melbourne storm ceo, ex-peptides cmo) and greg swann (currently bears ceo, afl admin veteran) as two names

he seemed more certain that rodski is talking to us, but flagged swann as someone we should be talking to, or that the afl might want to bring back in house as part of dil and laura's exec team

several people i've spoken to today about rodski rate him enormously highly

Interesting. I thought I had heard a while ago the Brisbane Bronco's were after Rodski, but he was staying in Melbourne.

I think the Broncos were pursuing Frank Ponissi rather than Rodski

if Ponissi tries to move clarry on behind the back of the club, we have a ponzi scheme.

Jay Clarke tweeted that David Stevenson (NBL) and Simon Garlick are names in our CEO hunt (he didn’t give much more context.

mentioned Swann likely to extend with Brisbane.

Stevenson at a disadvantage as ceo of a privately held company, I suspect?

I would imagine Simon would remain in Perth, his boy Sonny heading in to Yr 11 and settled in school. Be surprised if he moved

Don't know much about him nor the NBL under Larry K to be honest…

Would rather Fox tbh.

David’s a great guy and a mad Demons supporter. I went to school with him.

David Stevenson was the CEO of the Bulldogs in their Premiership year in 2016.

Of those mentioned on the unofficial ‘shortlist’, those names are certainly well credentialed 👍🏼

Charlie Gardiner would have to be under consideration for our CEO role no doubt.

Cut from the Sydney cloth as an administrator and we know how well they’re run.

What position does he hold at Sydney atm?

He was their executive general manager of football from 2019 to this year. Moved back to Melbourne end of 23’ for family reasons. In the running for the Pies job as head of footy but wants to be a CEO ultimately.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
