Yeah I’m not 💯 sure but I could swear there was a lunging bump in the 3 quarter. It is a bit reckless.

Otherwise I thought Kozzy played ok in his hybrid MF/forward role.

Wasn’t going to watch the game thinking it would end becoming a glorified trial for freo.. but in my thirst for real footy I flicked it on for a quick look, ended up watching the whole thing.. thought it was a really entertaining hit out, and they should rotate the games around the league each year.

Was also really enthused by kozzys running and defensive pressure, also just feels like he’s growing in to a bit of a leader. Really looking forward to see what he does for the dees this year..

Would be an interesting game if they played a multi-cultural team (parent, grand parent born overseas).

As a start their tall backs look ok with Alir Alir, Mac Andrew, and Leek Alir.

Any other suggestions?

I'm sure a heavy Irish contingent would give it plenty of run!

While I don't think I'm totally sold on the concept, I think you'd have Trac in the mix wouldn't you, maybe Salo and would big Maxy qualify for having some kind of NZ ties?  Roo? Kolt in a few years perhaps.

Indigenous all stars - yes, bring back state of origin - yes, but multicultural game would be just a bridge too far for me.  There's already multicultural Rd and I think the league acknowledges, respects and promotes the game sufficiently to all backgrounds to not require a stand alone game.

From the one article I read it would appear Freo took the game very casually, a number of their top players did not play and a few of their regular indigenous players were in the other side. Like all these games one side had low interest.

Sounds like another AFL blunder

Point of correction - they had about 3 years of a multicultural round, introduced in 2011, but the concept was abandoned about a decade ago. So no, there is no multicultural round.

no fta decision just doesn't make any sense at all

Just wait for the outcry when the season proper gets underway and people discover there are no FTA games on Saturdays.

Watched three quarters. The indigenous team were a joy to watch. (Amazing run on skillful football) Jason HF played a blinder. Pickett had a few cameos. May was strong.

38k there.

Definitely worth pursuing.

Was Freo the right opposition. Not sure. I would have preferred the Eagles.

I can see it being repeated in Adelaide but perhaps every second year

PS Could the opposition be a combo of the two local teams perhaps or dare we suggest the AA team

i suspect flagmantle and meth coke might alternate as the oppo every year

similarly, this may be part of the quid pro quo of radelayed being locked in as 'gil's gather round' for the next few years; a free kick to wa football

there's no chance they'd combine teams

I’d love to see the indigenous allstars V The AA team minus its indigenous players.

That would be awesome but the club that has the 3-4 AAs would be stressing big time.

Could you imagine this when we had Gawn, Trac, Oliver, Lever and May in the AA in 2021.

Sure but such games are played at training level intensity

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
