DD36.  I’m happy if that’s the case.  I’d like to keep 5 &9, to use on 2 elite midfielders.

Question is if the Eagles come with 12 & 26 on offer, would we take it … if we thought we were wanting to pick say for example Hynes at 9, would we just trade down and still be able to get him at 12 with the bonus of getting pick 26. Just a thought.

If we get to 9, and there's 4 blokes on the board we'd be happy with, then yeah we get 26 for free. If not, we just use 9. That's the logical play at least..

I’d love for us to get Smith at 5, but if not available, and Tauru is, I’d be happy for us to take a gamble on him and then with pick 9, take the best available mid.

Agree… 6 and 11 is an already a huge hand in this year’s draft. We picked well last year a landed quality. Windsor and kolt are 150+ gamers. Pick well this year and you can sure up the list.

Many here seem to think Kolt was a huge tick last year… he’s still a wait and see for me.  Windsor ENORMOUS tick, yes, but I didn’t see anything from Kolt which suggested he’s a guaranteed star.

Can’t see this happening unless the Eagles get something else from somewhere. Otherwise they might get Bo Allen but after that nothing until pick 73 - a recipe for disaster if you’re a bottom side.

He'll make it.

I agree tho, the ceiling very much up for debate

I see Kolt a the apprentice to Jack Viney, tough contested relentless… a role that’s challenging until you’ve a couple of pre-seasons under your belt. Kolt loves contest, and has a strut that means he’ll be a team lifter and drawn to nailing his moments.
lots to like about him.

Kolt is an intriguing one to me also and probably one I'm following a lot more closely than any other recent draftee, I think because we gave up a bit to trade up and nothing about his skill set screams out to me.

But I can see something. There's a doggedness about him that's just waiting for his body to catch up. It won't be through lack of trying or passion that he doesn't cement a spot in the 22

We need him to play some midfield mins and get decent disposal numbers to get full value out of him, rather than be strictly a medium sized fwd

Yep, not saying I don’t like him. Just feel like his first year was overrated by many on here.

To be fair to Kolt he probably should have spent most of his year at Casey, but our raft of injuries bought him in earlier than expected

I think his fundamentals - getting to contests, applying pressure, staying involved in the play - are all really strong

His disposal and decision making left a bit to be desired at times, but I think a lot of that can be put down to a) being a first year player and b) still needing to build up his tank (as he would often start really strongly in games before fading)

Once he settles in and has a few more preseasons I think we’ll see some more of the X factor that he showed at his junior levels, and on a few occasions this year (his WC and GC games were really strong)

Guaranteed star is a very high bar, but I saw plenty to suggest that if he puts the work in the kolt will become an A grader, a star.

Smart, good user, good footy iq, good hands - and has the key thing all stars have: x factor.

I tgink it  easy to be seduced by how quickly players like daicos and Windsor impact at AFL level.

But at the end of the day, kolt was in his first season of AFL football. With another preseason under his belt he will go up another level and a 60% damaging small forward, 40% inside mid.

Future looks very bright for the kolt IMV.

I agree, i saw enough to think Kolt has the makings of being a 200 game AFL player and a regular part of our best 22 for a long time.

Kolt is just a young man, only 19.  He has the inner competitive edge that JT often looks for.  His energy and strength will be as asset.  I see him as a Cam Rayner type, with his start being half forward and then rotation through the midfield as required.

You do realise the kid played most of his matches whilst still 18?

He averaged 12 possession and almost a goal a game. Your expectations are delusional

I never shared any expectation I had of him. You are making that up.

I thought his first year was probably in line with what they wanted for him.  I just said I don’t understand how people are declaring him a star/150 game player off the back of that first year. I hope he makes it but I think some are overrating his first year.

I'm with you. Either a lot of people on here have an exceptionally good eye for talent, and are able to glean something meaningful from the most subtle acts on the field, or they're thinking wishfully.

Nothing wrong with the latter - we all do it to some degree - but some of the extrapolation seems a bit over-the-top.

The thing that most makes me optimistic about Tholstrup is that Jason Taylor chose him. Not too many catastrophic failures on his resume.

In baseball terms he's probably a base hit at this stage rather than a homerun.

I wish we could play mind games with North and Tigers and say we are targeting a 'utility' at 5. Green has already come out and said we are prioritising the midfield.

Could still try...

I’m not sure Brad suggesting we’ll add new players to the midfield is tipping our draft hand - there’s players on the list who are going in to the midfield already, and we’ve long been linked with Tauru.

Either North don’t care or they’re willing to call our bluff.

For all we know North’s real target might be Armstrong and they’re crying out for us to pick Tauru.

Some bold picks and predictions coming in here with Dylan Alexanders mock draft:

Has us picking 5. Langfort and 9. Hotton

Depending how our cards fall, I see us taking one of Smith, Langford or Draper with pick 5. If we pick Langford I don't see the need to go for Smillie with pick 9 as they are like for like players. I also don't see St.kilda taking Smillie either, as they got Phillipou last year who is a 194cm mid, which many on here have predicted St.kilda will select.

Reid I'm not sold on with pick 9. I get Toumpas vibes from him... skilful player yes, but doesn't like the contest.

Richmond and St.Kilda will probably take one of Armstrong or Tauru with their selection before our next one so that leaves us with Allen, Lindsay, Travaglia, Hotton or Trainor. My gut feel is we go with Trainor, who is an excellent key defender but will be watchful of as he has already had concussions recently.

Either way we will get 2 fantastic players and will help us contending for years to come.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
