Kate Hore is a star.  Sorry 5 stars. ️ Another excellent game.  What a leader. Our captain.  Inspirational.  👏👏👏👏👏

Great to see Mick back into his groove with our run and ball movement.
We need a super effort on Wed night vs Crows but let’s hope we are positive and aggressive.

Rinse and repeat.

Super game. Also Georgia Campbell and Gall, wow! Goldy just huge!
Kate Hore is all class, probably should’ve played her permanent mid the second Liv went down in hindsight. Since Kate’s spent the majority of the game in there with Hanks and Heater we’ve been flying!

I’ve often felt our girls get a bad trot with the umps…..but not tonight!!!
The one_sided free count( our way) certainly decided the match. I’d be furious if I went for the Crows.

But we deserved the win for the relentless endeavour.

Sorry……I meant to put this in the match thread.

Apology

I think our best team not including Harris who's out for the year could be this

B: Colvin, Gillard

HB: Heath, Chaplin, Goldrick

C: McNamara, Purcell, Mackin

HF: Zanker, Campbell, Mithen

F: Bannan, Gall

FOLL: Pearce, Hanks, Hore

IC: Lampard, Paxman, Watt, Fitzsimon, Pisano

MFC is so blessed to have Kate Hore.  Keep Kate for life.  What a captain. What a captain. She’s a beautiful person on and off field.  Her drive to succeed and her leadership is motivating the under strength Dees.  👏👏👏

I know it’s repetitive, but watching Kate Hore, you are instantly impressed by her courage and leadership.  Then you see her skills, her determination and he drive to win the footy.

Again today versus the Pies.  What a player.  Kate is a star.  Sign her for life ❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️

Now currently the AFLW all time top goal scorer.  Doesn't surprise me in the least.  From the get go, Kate was a super and reliable shot on goal and knew how to get it in dangerous spots.  One of the few players at the time that I felt comfortable would nail most of her kicks for goal if she went back and lined up.

Has been great seeing her keep taking her game to new levels in recent years and starting to get some credit for it. Agree you @spirit of norm smith what a star and how blessed our AFLW team have been to have such great leaders and great people over the years.

You certainly are a fan of Kate and I would love to join your fan club Norm. Loves her footy and I am sure she is highly respected by her opponents and team mates. Always one of the first to congratulate, with her beautiful smile, good play by her team mates. Well done Kate you do your old school proud. I am not fully sure, was it Mentone Grammar?

She deserves it if she does. Wonderful leader.

Very underrated in AFLW circles when stars are called out from some Clubs by commentators. Star player and even nicer person.

Great  follow up to Daisy. Mick wouldn’t have it any other way.

We would be playing Finals next week if she had been fit vs Hawks. But instead we will have to cool our heels and accept we made great ground from Rounds 2,3 and 5 when overwhelmed by Lions North and Bombers.

In the interests of Kate appreciation, this is a great visualisation of her rise to the top of the all-time goalkickers list across the first 9 seasons:

(as of the weekend gone, Ponter drew equal at 81)

Didn’t make the AA squad, quite unbelievable.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Was the top FWD in AFLW fantasy by a mile (averaged 85.4). Next best in that position averaged 69.8

Melbourne gets shafted every way possible, every year, in whatever comp

Not a single Melbourne supporter on the voting panel below. Says it all. May have got 1 vote from Josh Mahoney, although I doubt it

Kate is, without a doubt, one of the top 5 players in the AFLW. She’d be amongst the first picked for any team alongside Hanks. It’s ridiculous she wasn’t nominated.

If Hore had played our Hawthorn game we’d be playing finals. Probably preparing to knock Hawthorn out in straight sets (just btw Hawthorn vs top 4 this year, 0-1. MFC 1-3, Hawthorn vs 5-8 2-0, MFC 1-2. Outside the 8 Hawthorn 8-0, MFC 4-0. Hawthorn’s fixture was a rigged joke!)

Moral of the story Kate Hore is a star.

It’s ridiculous… “unbelievable” is an understatement!!! Not to be even in the 42 named squad.

Highest rated forward in AFL Fantasy with 85 average.
In AFL website AA team as a Half Forward.
Strong stats across disposals, goals, tackles and clearances for a forward. Her impact was huge.

Clearly the selection panel didn’t see many Dees games !!!

Quite obvious that inclusion in AFLW All Australian side is a matter of supporter votes!

Her non-selection is embarrassing, but McNamara missing is far worse.

Tyla Hanks too! Wasn’t she voted by the other teams the player they most wanted to play with them? To not make even the top 40 is ludicrous

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

The Demons return to the MCG this time as the visiting team where they get another opportunity to put a dent into a team's top 8 placing when they take on the Hawks on Saturday afternoon. Who comes in and who goes out?
