I see him at many non Sabbath games (Thursday/Sunday/perhaps Saturday nights) in the Premium Members section with a couple other younger family members so unless he's being given tickets by the club then he is a paid up Premium Member.

Tht is the same area as the Redlegs group and I haven't seen him at any games since he got the flick.

He was unheard of during our worst ever period between 2008 and 2014, didn't issue a murmer, all of a sudden he  wants a bit of the limelight. I will stick to my theory that the media have contacted him to continue the stirring.

Mmm dunno about that. He coached the Lions for 3 seasons and won 14 of 66 games. He is well regarded as an assistant coach but it is so hard to assess assistants' ability as a senior coach.

A lot of people on here wanted Goodwin fired and Yze installed, yet look at Richmond. They are a rabble now, with no apparent game plan.

But they had 45 injuries don’t you know?

Green probably accepted as a courtesy given Gutnik was President in the early part of Green's career.

Green seems a lovely bloke but not very 'street wise' particularly in the business world.  A bit naive perhaps.

It was fairly low for an ex-President to blab to the media and I have no idea why he would give Robbo a complete rundown of his own ideas.

Lots of people will come knocking on Geen's door.  He would do well to these lessons.

Pressure is being applied. Simon must perform next season….

The last time Goodwin was under this much pressure was the preseason of 2021

A good omen

Correct. If he hadn’t underperformed over the last 3 years, these articles wouldn’t be written

or if he coached a team that is not the MFC.

Goodwin deserves to be under pressure, but I'm still waiting for the blowtorch to come onto underperforming non-premiership coaches like Nicks, Longmuir, Lyon, etc.

Hey Robbo, the bloke who collects my bins just yelled out 'Sack Goodwin'.

Your backpage for tomorrow is sorted

"Underperformed"?

There are 17 other clubs who all have coaches.

Tell me how many have matched Goody's performance and why?

Nicks and Longmuir are not in Victoria, not an issue

Goodwin has underperformed in 3 Seasons along with a lot of off field distractions.
His contract should never have been extended before last years Final Series, but that was Roffey & Pert.

2 Finals Series out in Straight Sets on the MCG, followed by 14th.
Using the same forward gameplan for all 3 years.

I call that underperforming and a Fail

A set up in the Herald Sun's dreadful campaign against the Melbourne Football Club dishonestly suggesting that there was a mutiny at the club based on a poll taken on line.

"Thousands of Melbourne fans have backed former president Joe Gutnick's call for the embattled club to sack coach Simon Goodwin."

The poll was open to the public and there's no evidence as to how many of the people who voted are Melbourne fans.

This is a disgraceful and dishonest set up against Simon Goodwin and a breach of journalistic ethics. The only person who deserves to get the sack is the person responsible for this outrage.

I'm not sure as to how many of you here are subscribers but my wife is and, as a result I voted and I also left a comment about the way I feel.

Anyone who knows about polling, will tell you that the conclusion reached by Robinson about Melbourne supporters' attitudes to Gutnick's comments is fatally flawed. The respondents could be supporters of any one of the 18 AFL clubs or indeed, supporters of none of them. This is shocking but unsurprising given the consistently anti MFC reporting from this newspaper.

If you subscribe to the the Herald Sun, you too can vote and leave a comment (up to you how you vote and what you write). It will be interesting to see if it gets a pass from the moderator.

I think we can all agree to disagree and not keep saying the same thing over and over

Some people think Goodwin has been top 4 H&A for 3 straight years and done well despite poor finals losses and a bad year this year. Others think he has failed.

One thing is fact - he is the best coach we've had in 60 years

All 4 finals we could or should have won. Bad kicking for goal was what cost us... Goody cant take their shots for them. The game plan provided the opportunities. Hinkley has been slaughtered consistently in finals...if that was the Dees Id be thinking differently.

Port Adelaide can do whatever they like.
Hinkley should have been terminated after the ‘21 Preliminary Final

You are like a broken record, no matter how many times you will kick the club, others will disagree with your opinion, get over it.

Its quite sad for supporters who are not capable of enjoying the journey we have been on since 2018.

And once again watch our club do nothing, say nothing, and let this narrative that we are in turmoil continue to be played out publicly.

Whoever the [censored] is responsible for our comms needs to take a long walk off a short pier. Absolutely woeful.

Just a few then, Smashed by West Coast, West Coast ????Continuation of Petty as a forward, refusal to send a hard tag on Horne Francis, Daicos, et all various selections blunders including selecting Brown for one game making him sub then dropping him, not putting more games into Moniz Wakefield, not selecting Jeffo vs Gold Coast ( ideal lead in game) and many others! Justa a few instances !

I'll pay this, but he *did* send a tag to Daicos on KB, and it truly did limit his damage. Poor willingness to contest from players isn't within the coach's purview on gameday.

Selection I don't see as a gameday issue, and I very highly doubt it is all Goodwin's call, but agree to disagree.

Edit: apologies for sidetracking the thread, but back on topic: Gutnick obviously has some time to kill given he can't be a director for any companies at the moment. Gotta keep that public profile happening somehow

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
