Sounds like quite a few Demonlanders have the benefit of Hynes sight on this one

With pick swapping, unfortunately the Dees are now out of the frame for Hynes. ย Heโ€™s likely to go at live pick 18-20 so GWS, Tigers or Swans most likely his destination. ย

Well itโ€™s still possible if they dearly want a player for specific needs or if they very unwisely try to split pick 9. Not the year to do it I donโ€™t think.ย

The Age reporting there's still interest for Cooper Hynes. It would have made a lot of sense when we had the second rounder but I just think reaching for him at pick 9 is a tad too far with the amount of talent we'll have to choose from

Re: Pick 12 where the Age has us picking Armstrong:

'The Demons are also big fans of Dandenong Stingrays bull Cooper Hynes'

28. Cooper Hynes (Richmond)

Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Metro
Midfielder/forward, 190cm, 28/2/2006
Talent League stats (avg):ย 23.7 disposals, 4.7 clearances, 1.5 goals
The Ageโ€™s August top 30:ย N/Aย October top 30:ย 27
Agility test:ย N/Aย 20m sprint:ย N/Aย 2km time trial:ย N/A

This might be far too low for Hynes, who could go as high as Melbourneโ€™s second pick, with West Coast and Port Adelaide among his admirers. The common retort about the powerful Stingrays product is that he has the widest draft range of any player. Formed a great one-two punch with Harvey Langford, and they often switched between the forward line and midfield. There are some lofty AFL comparisons for him, from Cam Zurhaar to even Clayton Oliver. Hynesโ€™ endurance needs to improve, but his forward and clearance craft are rated highly.

Would not mind it one bit if we took him with 9.

Enormous upside in terms that he could genuinely explode in the next couple of years with his sheer power and strength.ย ย

Probably similar to Chard Warner who was a 3rd round draft pick.

It's such a jason Taylor thing to do to reach for a particular player they like.

I wonder if player x is available at 9 that we would take but if Richmond really want would they offer 11 and 18 or 20 for 9. As example we may plan to take Armstrong but be willing to let them trade up if they really wanted him seeing the combo of Shanahan (11) and Hynes (18)as greater overall value.ย

Would love that. A lot would have to go right for us there though.

Wow. The sellout of five picks including future first round 2025 for โ€œ9โ€ to get Hynes would be optimistic or perhaps beyond this โ€ฆ misti-optic!!! Heโ€™s very good. ย But heโ€™s a HFF/mid. ย โ€œ9โ€ will need to be our second star. ย I do admit I do like Hynes style of aggressive play but imv others appeal more at 9.ย

Ps We might split โ€œ9โ€ for Eagles 12 & 26. ย Surely then Hynes comes into play. ย Lindsay, Hotton or Hynes at โ€œ12โ€ (15) then elite defender next gen best CHB James Barrat or Clancy Dennis ย at โ€œ26โ€ (32)

What I like about Hynes is that he has great power (which we always value highly) and he plays the game an odd way. He does weird things on the field, sort of like a Nate Caddy or Jake Stringer does. When youโ€™re looking for ways to create goals and be dangerous, itโ€™s sometimes the players who do weird things that can make a difference. I think Hynes would be in part exhilarating and infuriating, but sometimes you need that element in your forward line.

The power in his game is very enticing.

It's the power that I love, but it's a great call RE "weird things". He's definitely unpredictable. That's kind of what I was getting at with my Stevie J comparison early on.

I follow this guy closely and enjoy his draft content.

Well worth the follow.

I want to hear commentators adopt โ€˜weird thingsโ€™ into the vernacular! Need an alternative to โ€˜X factorโ€™ and I think youโ€™ve found it @Axis of Bob

Surely we just go the Langford/Hynes comboย

Wonder if these means we would be more likely to split 9 and get him and another pick in the 20s.

Oops. Skim read the article and missed the bit that mentions a pick slide for hynes.

Maybe, but I genuinely believe that we actually could use pick 9 on him.

In terms of talent there is actually not much of a difference between him and the talent around the pick 8-13 mark. In fact, I'm surprised he's not rated that highly based on his numbers and form this year.

Agree, he stands out whenever I see him play. Will be a beast when he gets midfield fitness under him.

Another I quite like around this range is Berry, do you have any insights into him?

Just looks a classy player with toughness and skill. More than just a small forward for mine.

If we want Hynes, simply draft him at 9 to ensure we get him (depending on who else is on the board). Simples.

JT saw us linked to a 180cm mid and said show me the bulls

Yeah we've interviewed Berry for sure. I don't have too much of an update on how much of an interest we have in him.

The two bushie boys I know we've spoken to a fair bit since their season ended are Josh Murphy, Ben Kennedy and Ollie Warburton.ย

This is what I'm starting to believe. I think we'll simply snap Hynes up at 9.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmyโ€™s inclusive bannerโ€”"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwoodโ€™s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.ย

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecastโ€”20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze โ€” expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isnโ€™t a standard conceptโ€”itโ€™s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.
