Long contracts are becoming the norm.

Here is a list of the longest contracts currently in the AFL

2033: Hayden Young

2032: Connor Idun (?!), Sam Taylor, Connor Rozee, Noah Balta (?!!!!), Max King, Aaron Naughton

2031: Darcy Fogarty, Cam Rayner, Hugh McCluggage, Jacob Waitering, Brent Daniels, Nick Blakey

2030: Isaac Cumming, Harry McKay, Dan Houston, Harry Perryman, Josh Daicos, Andrew McGrath, Brennan Cox, Josh Treacy, Sean Darcy, Mac Andrew (who has a 4 year extension triggers), Josh Battle, Clarry, Harry Sheezel, Jack Lukosius

Additionally 42 other players have 4 more years remaining on their current deals, some of which were 6+ years long.

I can count on one hand, the players listed above who I would trade for Kosi.

If we landed Houston, he'd be tied to us for a minimum of 5 years on a reported $850k a year, and he's 28. Did anyone bat an eyelid at that?

The money and term are great but I heard what’s actually convinced kozzie is @Adam The God offering to become his PA

If you think this deal is big, just imagine what Harley Reid is going to get, having shown literally nothing except what a petulant unprofessional child he is.

Geelong is already mowing the lawns on his 9 acre farm, and Cotton On has a headband range in the works.

The saints are absolutely not a serious club if their offer for NWM isn’t as big or bigger than this. Losing him would be a bigger loss for the. Than kozzie would have been for us.

If this gets done a lot of the credit should go the club of course, but especially to Goodwin.

From Kozzie’s POV, you don’t make that sort of a commitment to someone you don’t believe in.

Sure, but they also have to come up with a huge offer for De Konig.

Waiting for that post which takes a bit more time to load when compared to others - as Andy has embedded the announcement link - is both excruciating but also exciting at the same time.

I've heard that Cotton On is working on a new XXL range of Harley Reid undies and Ts.

As an outlier, does the team you barrack for have any stars on big coin?

I am an outlier in the discussion not an interloper on the forum.Of course I am a Dee. My reservations are not principally about the money even though this is clearly not a "i could have got more more money elsewhere but stayed for less because i love the place " type deal. My concern is that Kos now has all the security and we have all the risk including the continuing flight risk.

If he continues on his current trajectory he will be worth every penny of this new contract, my only concern outside some unforeseen injury is that it might hamstring the club in getting other players in particularly with Trac and Oliver already on big long term deals to, this would basically lock us out of getting any other million dollar players ie a key fwd if one was gettable.

I'm surprised anyone would pay the Perryman for this length of time.

Kane will be filthy about that. Especially the 9 years. He'd have a different tune if he signed for that with Port though.

Exactly. And if the club were thinking the way Kane does we’d be a true basket case!

$12.5 mil over 7 years is big. Doesn't matter which way you slice it.

Think it's a great move by the club but not without risk.

Why arent you working on the announcement post yet? Are you part of the MFC's marketing and communications strategy? The DL channel reaches a huge % of MFC supporters :)

He’d cream his shorts if Port managed to convince Butters to sign on for 9 years.

If you’re making any life decision based on Kane Cornes’ opinion, you should immediately seek professional help.

I make them based on Goody's.

I've seen some of the media personnel try to paint a picture on our salary cap, with the figures for all our players constantly changing.

For example, in this article it states that "right now, Clayton Oliver’s on $1.7m through to 2030, Christian Petracca really similar."

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-trade-news-rumours-2025-melbourne-demons-offer-kysaiah-pickett-sevenyear-contract-extension-ross-lyon-comments-on-nasiah-wanganeenmilera-future-latest-news/news-story/25d2f4f23776b176f533875d820806f3

While the articles when both of these players signed are completely different, with them both estimating that they signed for $1m a year or less.

Clarry: https://www.afl.com.au/news/789697/demon-for-life-clayton-oliver-signs-massive-contract-extension

Trac: https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-news-2021-christian-petracca-contract-melbourne-free-agent-new-deal-net-worth-how-much-money/news-story/916d148703bf5e714f4db9911e2666aa

Really goes to show how the media has no idea how much the players are being paid and how the contracts are structured; they're just pulling numbers out of thin air.

How long have you been waiting to use that one? 🤣

IMO the AFL need to set maximum contract length, at 5 years. Save clubs from themselves, and benefits the AFL with more player movement.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
