Some need to ease up on Kolt. Yes he should have kicked it but you can name 50 other crucial moments where some of our more senior players were poor.

Take Jake Lever for instance. How on earth can you let a 182cm small forward just take a relatively easy mark like that.

Good learning experience for Koltyn.

Hard to blame him too much for the miss, but I am definitely concerned about what I've seen so far from a kid who has a bit of a frame already. Not great by foot or hand, lacks awareness with the ball, and isn't laying tackles. He needs to develop at VFL level, not AFL level.

We dont need Houston

If Oliver needs surgery end his season now.

Goodwins coaching was poor tonight.

Kozzy was fantastic

I am a bit confused re. Clarry. What surgery does he need? Didn't he already have the hand op?

Just hearing part of goodys presser it sounds like he is still going to pick the best team & not put anyone away.

He still wants to go out & win.

I'm quite pleased with how well we played tonight with that team.

We are just missing a few things & missing finals will give goody the chance to review & hopefully change some things

Sportsbet / nice odds on us missing the 8 a month or so ago

I got on it @ $1.45 at that time.

I have bet also against the Dees for about the last 7 weeks. Didn't bet v Essendon. Needless to say, I'm well ahead.

Money for old rope.

A lot of rubbish spoken already. A very good effort overall against a top 2 team. We led for most of the game. Billings played his role well! Max was supreme. Kossie was outstanding. Excellent pressure acts by almost every member of the team. I could go on. Disappointing to lose a game we might have won. A few mistakes in the final three minutes was the difference.

Thank god for some common sense

Port were 13-7 this afternoon and would have sat sixth if they lost that game. They're not some juggernaut We lost 6 games in 22 and 7 in 23 with an extra round. The effort was there, the polish was not. Shouldn't dismiss people's concerns as "rubbish" as if we'd just taken it right up to the 07 Cats and hadn't come off 2 shellackings in 3 weeks.

Maybe they've been watching what we have.

Well obviously. But to call it out after a game on Saturday is a bit strange.

Definitely need a review of the whole FD. We need a new method, game plan and a whole set of coaches who can work some magic. TBH this should have been done last year. 2024 was a wasted year. We achieved nothing  but blooding a few young ones.

The review will not include Alan Richardson who I believe is role has been questioned.

Who will undertake it?

Equally, isn't this or something like it standard at the end of every year?

I think he must have been ill. There is obviously a bug going through the club - 3 last minute changes for illness tells us that. And one poster said he saw Clarry trying to throw up too. I suspect JVR had it too and was totally done by 3/4 time.

Clayton was throwing up because that miserable sniper Sweet punched him in the guts off the ball. It was good to see the troops come in and get into him.

Thought we were great tonight, the better side lost.

The umpiring was atrocious and there should not have been a score review.

Billing's effort was extremely poor for such an experienced player, stop giving him an out!

We have done this to ourselves, we stuffed up list management and only have one ruckman. If you thought this was a good idea at the start of the idea then you don't know football.

Time to “manage” Oliver. Get him off for surgery if he needs it or otherwise just start his pre-season ASAP.

I suspect that there are concerns as to what happened last off-season, and that it's better for his mental health and well-being to stay in the gameday program.

Could be wrong. Sad to see him like this at the moment though.

I’m really not sure what I’m watching all year with our CBD and stoppage set ups, for mine we set up to win the second possession as if to strip it after they win first possession.

The last or second last point Port got they got inside 50 by Rozee winning a clearance on our half forward flank. He was left goal side of the stoppage, all by himself, and sure enough, they tapped it straight to him, hegets the clearance and pings forward for an inside 50 for them.

It's like WTF are we doing? 10 mins left in the game and it's either scores tied or we're a point down.

Whatever we're doing at stoppage, it isn't suiting our best clearance player in Clarry, so it needs a rejig. Enough of this playing Clarry as a defensive mid every week.

One thing I was really excited about was starting McVee in the centre square and then he disappeared from there. Clearly, just wanted to give him a small taste. He needlessly rushed a lot of his disposals tonight when he had more time. It'll be good for him to watch the tapes though.

Rivers seemed to have a different role, a bit more back of stoppage, which is where he plays his best footy IMO, but he wasn't able to have a huge bearing on the game.

We need a new midfield look next year.

Well the Demons chances to make their fourth consecutive finals series have been dashed and the season is officially over after going down by 2 points to the Port Adelaide Power at the MCG.

I thought that he was given his weekly friendly punch in the guts.  Of course no action from umpires and don’t expect the severely compromised unintelligent MRO to even look at it.

saw that too

i think he was just following horne-francis at the time, sticking to him as best as glue can

Port are the worst top 2 team ever.
This season's very weird.

For those suggesting we rest players, anyone who knows Max will realise he will never rest. He is the leader and hates not playing. He IMO should be the all-Australian ruck and won't give any other ruckman a chance to take that role from him. He plays even if on 1 leg, that is Max.

Garry Lyon mentioned On The Couch on Monday that Clarry's hand "was shot to pieces". Indicating that he is playing admirably like Gawn through severe pain. Our season is done, it's time to rest our champion players and be ready for one last crack next year!

Yeah ... Dunno.
Seems his hand is also effecting his everything else.
But I'm all for putting him on ice till next year.
You don't just jettison 4time Bluey winners.
Or the bloke who kicked the most fist pumping goal I ever saw.
And if it wasn't for Petracca he'd probably have a couple brownlows in his kitbag as well.

It has tonight been decided that a review will be undertaken post season to ensure we have the staff most capable of maximising the talent within the club. It is believed there is a lot of player support behind the current regime but there are others associated with the club who believe changes are neccesary.

This news has made my night.

I'll take Chandler everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. Spargo is a neat and crafty player with good vision. Chandler offers so much more to the side with his hardness, pressure, follow up, marking, goal nous and can kick over 50 metres lol.

Someone clearly sponsors the guy

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
