Go back 10 years and we could only dream of current membership figures - which are still the 4th highest in the club's history.

If that's a "drastic fall" I can't help you.

Perspective.

Surely it's relative.

Our membership is plummeting..

Look at 21,22,23,24 and now..

There's a trend.

No. You need to wake up Bing

In 2022 the MFC had 70,000 Members

That is the measuring stick we must work from

I am all for trying something different and May forward if well worth a try. Big bodied enforcer up forward to support our young forwards like JVR, Jeffo etc. Not only could it reinvigorate the team, it could be just the tonic May himself needs to get back to his best again. He will always contest and bring the ball to ground. Quick too over a 10 metre lead. We have coverage down back with Lever, Disco, TMac and Petty.

What an opportunity to try things at the back end of the season. Don’t waste the chance Simon. We have nothing to lose now.

Yeah I LUUURVE it but you know the story... the Narrative has already been written

Goodwin has bored 'em all to tears since.

May should be retired or shipped out to North at year’s end. He’s nowhere near our next serious tilt and thus expendable

It's sickening we have had 3 of the best marks and readers of flight in the AFL (May, Lever, Max) and despite having glaring forward issues since before our premiership, all 3 have never been tried at all. Is Max needed in the ruck? Many sides have been successful without a gun ruck and there's an argument to be had about Max domination in ruck vs actual advantage with taps.

What is Max's number one quality? He can mark anything anywhere. Great endurance. Maybe though it's time to look after him a bit and use his marking in the forward line. Leave him one out in the square.

Do we need all of May, Lever and Petty back? Turner as well..

May is a great leader of the backs but perhaps he and that leadership would at least now be better spent in the forward line.

I suppose like a lot here I've given up on real change happening.

Just give it a go for a few weeks. Swing them back or forward during games, just try something!

I've suggested bringing Tmac back to the backline and Lever to half forward...

I'd try it.

Wasn't that basically the plan when Grundy came on board and it failed miserably and Max just got his full time ruck position back?

Gawn is one of the worst kicks for goal in the game. He had a few years where he was awesome when outside 50 but has even seemed to lose that weapon.

If we want to kick an extra 3 behinds a game while suffering behind the play then sure put him forward.

I'd rather just play Tmac forward at that point.

He won't play forward.. Apparently it's a thing .

Otherwise yeah..... but ...nahhh

He is contracted for next year and won’t be shipped off to North. He might not be around for our next serious tilt but he gives us a look at what a forward line might look like with a larger, more imposing key forward working alongside our younger forwards. Also gives recruiters at least two off seasons to see if we can recruit or develop an imposing key forward with size and aggression for the longer term.

So Carlton has round 100,00 members ..2 Coleman medallist’s as forwards ..a Brownlow medallist in the midfield ..an All Australian fullback.., is this the measuring stick we should be aiming for ..how’s their finals record in the last 30years. Seemingly their members still sign up regardless ..

shouldn’t effect the Football Department at all.

The Club has been running smoothly with the interim positions.

The Football Department has not given 100% performances, that has been laid bare, and because of it we are sitting in the Bottom 4

Letting your mate Greeny off pretty easily as usual. Our board has been asleep at the wheel since at least 2020. An interim president and an interim CEO. As @rjay says, how was this allowed to happen? Not good enough.

I am only interested in the MFC, what Carlton do is entirely their problem

The 70,000 who signed up in 2022 should have grown, but the product is so often boring and frustrating to watch

And what would you suggest that Greeny has done wrong and should have done better?

The problems have come from the Football Department, not the Board

He should have gone with option #1 for CEO, who would already be at his desk and working.

Our FD problems stem from a nothing, charade of a review last year.

Brad was the football director, he should have been the conduit between FD and board, along with (likely) the CEO. And yet we had our two beat midfielders, arguably of all time, trying to request trades out of the club last year.

They both love Goody, but things in the FD were allowed to fester. Whose fault is that? The board should take no ownership over the demise of things both on and off field?

That’s your take, others can disagree

Do you know why option #1 was not chosen for the position?

Tracc and Clarry didn’t want to leave last year, that was what the Media wanted to happen….

Clarry was part of the problem…

Brad Green has kept the place together, i won’t comment on the Revue, because i have no idea what was discussed

...and it's the Boards job to oversee and where necessary take action to sort these problems out.

A caretaker President & CEO are not in a position to do anything.

So the answer is simple, the F.D needs to go!

I know I said I'd take a break from DLand and I'm trying.

But I must say our club as best as I can sum it up is...

BROKEN.

1......To have three years of diabialical goal scoring issues.

2.... Players complaining in public about the club.

3....Recruiting players like Billings, Fullarton , McAdam who have been on the list for a while now but haven't offered us much. Schache a prime example. We kept him for years but rarely played him. Probably for good reason. But why did we keep him around.

  1. ..Goodys insistence on playing Petty fwd when last year with twenty games, kicked a goal every fortnight.

5...Playing games in Nt where we lose and are not crowd favorites.

6...Dropping players when they are in good form for players not in form. Tmac for eg. ( It reminds me of Adam To..)

  1. Goody is very slow to make changes during a game.

  2. .Our meekness to not just once come out and call the umps out for the disgraceful pies game.

  3. ..Our fwd line delivery especially given our failure to recruit enough big body old fashioned style full fwds that can take a pack mark to suit this.

  4. I'll say it again because the club doesn't seem to notice....our poor kicking at goal for three years in row....... currently the worst in the entire competition

Now not all of these of course fall upon poor Goody. But some of them simply must. So it is I believe, all finished for Simon at our club.

He's done a great job in breaking the horrible voodoo and win us a flag but now he's gone past his use by date.

Has he been a great coach? I think he has. Some may argue we should have got more than one flag with this list. But I would argue that losing Gus and Melksham cost us. Not Simon.

But that's all by and by. Moving forward we need to start again.

This year is a bust.

Let's introduce a new coach and cut several players.

Kings or Queens bday is s time for rose pruning.

So too with the club. Sure we played well and were clearly robbed but it was our goal kicking again that helped lose it. And some stubborn coaching.

So while we are good enough to beat the number one team in front of a huge crowd and get beaten by power , saints and North.... something is definitely not right.

Simon is getting heaps out of them one week followed by zip the next.

Surely this is reason enough to start pruning again.

Starting with the coach. Definitely.

Well said, hopefully the club reads this kind of post. Couldn’t be more true. If they don’t believe it then they have buried their heads in the sand.

We never actually had 70,000 physical members. Definitely a significant membership drop off though.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
