I filmed the seconds coming out and the first part of their training. I’ll post it soon.

Vids to come.

Had awesome chats with Clarrie. And with a few others and it was the best session I’ve ever been to as a result of what I was told.

But the last interaction I had has left me rattled tbh. It was a conversation with one of our seconds players. Not gonna mention his name because it really doesn’t matter since what he said goes for ‘a few of the boys’ to use his words. The convo:

Me: Hey _______!

Him: Hey WCW!

(hugs)

Me: You’re goin’ great guns!

Him: Says you. You’re my biggest fan (laughs)

Me: Nah, not just me.

Him: OK, besides you, who else? Certainly not Melbourne fans.

Me: Of course Melbourne fans…everyone in the Demon Army for starters

Him: (scowls) Ugh, the Demon Army, what would they know?

Me: (shocked) Why do you say that?

Him: Wait, did you say “the Demon Army”?

Me: (sad) Yes

Him: Oh nah, I love you guys, you guys are effing awesome, we all love the Demon Army….

Him: I thought you said Demonland.

😳

Me: You read Demonland?

Him: Yeah a few of us boys do. I shouldn’t though, they talk a lot of sch!t about me. Some of the stuff we’ve read (shakes his head)

Anyways, the conversation continued mainly with me telling him not to pay any mind to the people who bag him since they’re likely the minority and he’s got the love and support of the majority of Dees fans, etc.

So yeah, now we know for sure that some of our boys read our posts. Not oppo boys, OUR BOYS.

Goody wasn’t there. He’s quite unwell but improving.

Hardly surprising. No player likes to read that they are playing poorly.

If it was just reading that they’re playing poorly I’m sure they wouldn’t be so affected. It’s the straight up bagging. This isn’t me lecturing people on it, this is directly from someone who is offended. These are kids ffs.

Not the first time a player has mentioned reading Dland, and tbh I reckon it would be hard for them not to, but they also have to accept that this place, especially in a game day thread or just after a loss is pure emotion.

And like any one in any public arena they will not have 100% support and love, I mean people still bag players who may not have had a good game in the GF.

We are humans, doing human things... and lets face it, we are not the best of species 😁

Well done WCW thanks for braving the elements and getting back to us. I know some of the players who are all away of Demonland but the club recommends they don't due to the unsolicited vitriol.

@WalkingCivilWar would you kindly mention how Max trained this morning, assuming he trained on site?

He trained very well. Moved beautifully. No sign of any lingering issue with his foot/shin. Was in incredibly high spirits, as was everyone, well, nearly everyone. I made sure to film lots of Max action and will post the vids when I’m back home and my phone will have more than 12% 😭

Welcome to the world of elite sports. These kids are making what - $200,000  a year+

Footy forums are full of frustrated supporters some of whom vent and/or overstep the mark on criticism at times.

It can be tough on players but that’s just how it is so they need to learn to deal with it or find something else to do.

You can tell a kid til you’re blue in the face to not read certain stuff online and it’s futile.

Sorry WCW, I'm a bit confused. How did this player mishear Demon Army as Demonland? Army and Land sound nothing alike...

It would be tough being a player in the modern age.

Seen plenty of players of various sports disable comments and even delete their social media accounts due to abuse.

It's not just hearing nonsense over the fence these days, there is no escaping it when it's in your pocket.

If any player reads this - i am your fan, give 'em hell on the weekend.

You got this Melbourne, let's go boys!!!

Hey Riv, you probably get this a lot, but my daughter thinks you're hot.

You’d have to ask him. He’s the one who misheard it. I do talk fast and a lot so maybe that’s why. 🤷‍♀️

What are you suggesting?

No one said they sound alike. The player probably heard Demon Army and computed Demonland.

Big difference between getting stuck into a player based on their form, or something they did badly in a game.

Totally different story to call players useless, weak, gutless, a cultural cancer etc etc

We all are guilty of getting emotional about the club, myself included, and I am no saint, but some of the utter [censored] that gets written about our players not just here but everywhere online, is downright embarrassing.

Just look at the post Melbourne made about Petty's re-signing. Some of the comments made about him were awful.

I always try to think to myself if this player was my child, or my husband, would I be ok to read what I write about them?

I take it Clayton told you Sam McLure is muckraking POS who's latest trade rumour is complete garbage?

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

  • POSTGAME: Sydney

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.

  • CASEY: Northern Bullants

The Casey Demons travelled to a windy Cramer Street, Preston yesterday and blew the Northern Bullants off the ground for three quarters before shutting up shop in the final term, coasting to a much-needed 71-point victory after leading by almost 15 goals at one stage. It was a pleasing performance that revived the Demons’ prospects for the 2025 season but, at the same time, very little can be taken from the game because of the weak opposition. These days, the Bullants are little more than road kill. The once proud club, situated behind the Preston Market in a now culturally diverse area, is currently facing significant financial and on-field challenges, having failed to secure a win to date in 2025.
