It’s quite possible Clarry is thinking the grass is greener and maybe this is our way of getting him to look round and see what the reality would be for him outside the mfc, I doubt he would get the special treatment and latitude he has received at Melbourne from anyone else. What other captain from any other club is going to board him while he get over his issues that almost derailed his career while there wife is almost due to give birth. It’s going to be almost 2 years now that Carrie had been paid like a million dollar player and playing like a half million dollar player.

A common magpie fan comment when we hired Pert was that he’d meddle in the footy department.

I don’t know if we should trade Clarry or not. It might be an inspired choice.

But if we do it should be to a club that will actually pay up and it should be done wisely

With Smith and Clarry the future 1st will likely be pretty ordinary.

There would be a lot of things going on we do not know about.

We will need to trade picks for another 1st rounder in this draft to go with Windsor and Tholstrup.

We could get a good player with the pick 25 from the crows although it will fall back a fair way with compo, academy picks etc

There will be one less MFC member next year if we trade Clarry for only a future first from Geelong of all clubs

Because if you're going to build a team around young players you need leadership and you need experience.

Viney wouldn’t have signed on for a rebuild. He would have gone to North for a lot more money if he wanted a rebuild.
Tmac and Melksham aren’t playing on to lead by example.

If the club wants to rebuild before Tasmania comes in, no problems, but then Trac should be traded too as his currency is bigger than Clarry’s right now. And we shouldn’t bother chasing someone like Houston who is older than Clarry.

I’m now guessing he’s gone. Shall I put the plane crash gif up one more time? Personally I think it hits the nail right on the head in relation to all things MFC.
This is where we find ourselves, it’s more embarrassing than the early 80’s.

And we all know what happened to Jesse Hogan don't we??

But does Jesse Hogan be one what he has become today without going through what he had to mature ? And for every Hogan success story I wonder how many disappear into oblivion. Anyone remember Bennell ?

Where did Oliver say that? (possibly hearsay - like everything else)

look at p. 27 of this thread - i don't have the knowledge of how to repost it here

A good club might look at Oliver's issues last year and see Tassie coming in and press the trigger and try and trade one or two high calibre players after maximising their value.

A good club would have kept Clarry's issues as quiet as humanly possible and maximise that trade value then.

A good club would have sensed Petracca's issues and got out in front of the story as soon as it was said he would 'leave tomorrow if he could'.

Instead MFC leaked most of Clarry's issues themselves, did everything they could to reduce his trade value, and is now shopping him after he had his worst ever season due to lack of preseason.

MFC admitted to making minimal effort to stay in touch with Petracca's family after his injury to actually support Petracca's position that the club was the problem rather than he.

MFC potentially leaked stories about Petracca to make him sound like a primadonna and in doing so lowered his value also.

I heard tonight Kozzie is also considering his options.

Laughable.

Not sure who's talking about a rebuild. If you get the balance right you can still be competitive.

It's the difference between bringing in the Dan Houstons to stake all on another flag with this group but then falling off a cliff in 2-3 years time, as opposed to going all out to bring in the next generation now to smooth out that curve.

The only problem with that scenario for us though is the loss of leadership in ANB and Gus, which isn't ideal.

Honestly all this is reminding me of the time supporters begged Prendergast NOT to recruit a certain draftee that we picked and who never even played at VFL level.

There's not much that goes on within clubs that other clubs/players don't know about - regardless of what comes out in the press or on social media.

If it’s you then Bye Bye but please don’t bother coming back (ever) if this is how fickle you plan to be.

It was pretty hard to keep everything quiet last year, from a Club POV as everything was posted on instagram and Tik Tok…

Maybe Brand Tracc realises this will increase the likelihood of a Brownlow?

It was Tom Morris saying someone in Clarries camp thinks dees would trade for a future first and a player, hardly the most reliable reporter or sources I doubt even Oliver himself would know what dees might want for him

The guy was sighted in all states of distress and undress in some very public places…. Keeping his issues quiet wasn’t a really a possibility

He’s a veteran, We owe him 5 million, he’s a give away, a freebie, like Treloar and Grundy, if we can raise Geelongs first (Next year) we are on top of the game.

Geelong players can be carried out unconscious from night clubs at 3am and it barely gets 24 hours traction though.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
