NON-MFC: Round 16

Back in round 2, if someone said to you outside the MCG after the game that Hawthorn would be equal on wins with Melbourne at round 16, you would’ve called the police on them.

Some predicted pre-season that they would rise significantly. But your point is well made @Bring-Back-Powell. I didn't think the Deez would implode to the extent we have done.

1.5 games between 3rd and 13th!!

I know it’s been said before, but still that’s just ridiculous.

So many 8 point games coming up.

Port v Dogs

Cats v Geelong

Pies v Essendon

Absolutely imperative that we win next week to get a jump on 3 of those teams.

It’s a real bugger we lost on Friday. We would have  need to only go 4-4 to make finals if that had occurred. Now we need to go 5-3 and a few results fall our way. Definitely need to win the next 2 otherwise we’ll have to either beat Suns away, Freo away or the Pies in the last round. Dogs at Marvel also won’t be easy.

well summed up.

I'm thinking next 2 weeks will decide.  Beat Eagles. But Lose and we're gone.

Beat dons, and if not we don't deserve to be a finalist and let someone else have a shot.  Dons are pretenders clearly, so If we can't beat them then we are a lower-mid table team for now anyway.

Next 2 weeks winning will then give the team the confidenece to go on with it and  Finals spot will have to be taken from us.

On the flipside, with talent still in place and a young team now, a full pre-season won't be a bad thing for 2025. We haven't had one since 2021 - provided the back office 9coachong staff) solve the obvious issues with the talent we have.

The Dees can still make the 8 if they show the contest and pressure game like they played at the Gabba on Friday. A big plus is the Dees don't meet the Blues in the remaining rounds (who of course are storming to their 17th flag 😁).

As much as it hurts to be as low as 12th, we could be back in the 8 in 2 weeks if we can knock off WC (likely) and then Essendon (possibly).

Destiny still very much in our hands and we play the likes of Essendon, Bulldogs, GWS, Port and GC who are all fighting for that 7th-8th spot.

Going to (hopefully??) be some very uplifting and exciting wins for the MFC on the run home.

Beating West Coast and Essendon is definitely doable.

That's why some of these posts are getting a bit riddiculous. A lot of people seem to have collective amnesia about what Max King has been able to produce in the past, particularly in 2022 (before the shoulder injuries).

He needs a full pre-season and someone working with him who isn't a "2007-2011 St Kilda nepo hire". No offence to Harvs, but I have my doubts he's the best person to coach a key forward through a form slump. Get someone from the outside to work with him on his craft. Someone who understands what he might be going through. Give him whatever he needs. He's the future and is capable of great things.

FFS, saying he's "never going to be that player" is riddiculous when he's already shown it.

How on earth did we lose to west coast???? They are totally useless.

Unfortunately we got them on the say they decided to play like premiership contenders. Which is typical of Melbourne

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
