No one really starring

McAdam disappoints me as does Billings.

Jefferson.. doing enough

AMW.... not sure what we are trying to do with him

Lucky the last play wasn't important, he took about 50 steps!

It was a spirited effort in that last quarter. Fullarton, AMW, Verrall, Jeffo and Laurie gave it their all and nearly pulled off a win.

Norf had lots of talent on ground with McKercher, Stephenson and Duursma playing

Casey showed some resolve in the second half to make a contest of it. North the perennial cellar dwellers will rise. After  all the AFL largesse, they can afford to play two highly touted recruits in the seconds?

north hold on to win by a goal

lots to like about jefferson, moniz-wakefield, and to a lesser extent adams with some good marks

fullarton and verrall cameos

billings, laurie, mcadam offered nothing while presume woey 2.0 was injured as he wasn't sighted - at least not by me - after half time

Why do we trade away valuable draft picks for blokes like billings and mcadam who struggle at casey

Should cheer the tea-leaf readers. An alternate career beckons...

So that is your criteria and you're only prepared to put $20 on it? Gutsy!!

Massive "free kick North" quarter from the umps here.  Particularly No.12

Had him penciled in as NQR earlier in the game.

I'm not entirely sure if Will Varrell will make it.

He struggles to hold his marks and there were certainly moments there in the last quarter he should have held onto a few grabs that came directly to him but soft hands meant he dropped way too many.

If you're not at least a solid enough mark as a ruckman then you're going to struggle at the elite level.

Max struggled to do anything except his knees until that fateful day in geelong.......give the kid some time. I actually thought he had some ok moments.

McAdams.......I really thought we were getting more than this guy. Hopefully he stays uninjured and gets a full preseason in........AMW.........does he come in for Bowey??

What's the knock on Moniz-Wakefield? First time I've had a proper chance to sit down and watch Casey this year and he looks above average. No guarantee anyone translates VFL form into AFL performance, but I think we're miles from a settled, confident AFL side forcing good Casey players to wait their turn.

Max had all the attributes of a solid ruckman that had potential.  What he's showing now he showed at VFL as well as winning a best and fairest for Casey.

I haven't seen anything from Varrell that suggest he's got those athletes attributes that he can bring to AFL level.

On a side note AMW was very impressive.

don't think second and third round draft picks are particularly valuable

first season playing as a defender and he's coming along okay

if we didn't have a surfeit of players of a similar shape / size for defensive spots - mcvee, salem, rivers, bowey - then he may have got a look in the last few weeks

personally i'd be bringing him in for bowey this week, who i thought was below average last nite and has been for some time now

I'd strongly disagree with that

Let's look 3-4 years ago at the draft and see who was picked up in the second and third rounds

Beau Mcreery

Errol Gulden

Mitch owens

Paul Curtis

Jake soligo

Harvey Harrison

These kids are way past billings and mcadam

@old dee did you get a chance to watch Jeffo this week? I put the mozz on him last week but he kicked 4 goals today and took some impressive grabs all around the ground. Will be surprised if he gets a game this year but certainly a lot to work with.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
