I doubt anything will happen here, but I don't think it has to be a "rebuild" if we were to trade Jack for something good, which is the only reason you'd trade him.

I'd call it a "reset". A "rebuild" implies you have to sit in the bottom 4 for a few years.

We've already been replenishing our under 24s and have I'd say 10 that can take us forward from Rivers, Petty, JVR, McVee, Sparrow, Turner, Howes, AMW, Windsor and Kolt. And another 3 that could be added to this list if they keep improving in Woey, Brown and Jefferson.

If we're aggressive this off season, it's possible we add two elite talents to that first group. A Langford, Draper or Lalor would complement this group and strengthen our best 22 next year.

Then when Tassie comes in, I'd hope we can target an FA or two. Or in dreamland, land someone like Callaghan next year.

It might mean trading a Viney or a Fritta to get that second top 10 pick if a future 1st doesn't cut it.

He'd won his first AFLCA coaches award earlier in 2021 in our premiership year.

He was the best player in competition in 2021, according to the coaches, and I concur.

Jack slowed down this year and I reckon he's got 1-2 more years of brutal good footy left in him. 

If he could get a longer deal at North it might make sense for his family.

The idea of seeing him run around in another jumper, particularly a North jumper is gross though. 

Viney is our Pendlebury, he shouldn't play for another team. Just my opinion.

Hard agree regarding 'reset' vs 'rebuild'.

We had a huge gap in good, experienced players and leaders in the dark early to mid 2010's. These days we have a fantastic crop of older guys like Maxy, Trac, Viney, Oliver, Nibbler, May and Lever to guide and shield the young players that are coming up. I've said it numerous times but we're going to bounce back quite quickly I reckon.

Anyone thinking we should ask the Swans about Angus Sheldrick.  He is probably looking elsewhere for opportunities.  Showed a lot in 2023 but injuries this year have restricted opportunity.  Only 20, but shown good form in last 2 weeks in VFL games since returning from injury.  Fits the mould of young, competitive and excellent skills.  

Angus Sheldrick. Only watched 20 minutes of yesterday’s game. Sheldrick clearly too good for VFL. He hit targets and wins his own footy.  Swans have packed midfield so might be able to tempt him. Had 36 possessions v Pies VFL. 19 kicks. 7 clearances.

Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis are all Hawthorn royalty and club champions and none of them finished their careers at the Hawks. Viney playing his last 1-2 years at North won’t tarnish his Melbourne legacy. If Viney is open to it then I think it’d be foolish not to entertain it given where we are as a club.

His Dad and Max already work at North. It’s not a big stretch to see why Jack would say yes to it.

And then hawks had a 5-6 year decline in the bottom 3/4 clubs.  Beware selling off your experience, toughness and loyal  guns.

Jack ain’t playing for 3 more years. He’s already got his mind on life after footy as per his summer internship at Deloitte. I wouldn’t be surprised if he retired by the end of 2025 or 2026.

Our starting midfield next year should be - Trac, Oliver, Rivers and McVee.

I really can’t see Jack winding back the clock next year. We need speed and skill in our midfield mix.

Lalor is the one I've had my eye on. Will go around our first round pick according to the phantom drafts.
