If they are looking at Rivers going into the midfield permanently next year, wouldn’t mind if they looked at Nick Haynes, he's OOC. Bit tad old for my liking but would be handy in the backline for a season or two and lot cheaper than Houston.

With three rounds left of the season, is anyone slightly concerned that Langdon still remains out of contract?

I cannot see him leaving frankly, but if he did pack up and leave its not the end of the world.

if he was a free agent it would be more of a concern

but it is certainly an oddity

it would be very disappointing if after 5 seasons of pretty good and sometimes great footy he left

Yes, I am worried he hasn't signed up as yet. There is 3 rounds to go until the end of the year and Tim Lamb likes to get deals done quickly and efficiently.  Ed's last 5-6 games has been very good. I want him to stay, if he leaves it would be a massive loss.

Cal Twomey reported that he was nearing a deal a month or two back, so hopefully it’s something that just gets resolved in the next few weeks

I’d rather Battle and Cumming’s as free agents then give up a first for Houston.

I rate Houston more but I think the midfield talent in this years draft is to good to miss out on.

Backs: AMW   May   Lever

HB:     Mcvee Battle Cumming

In: cumming, Battle and pick 7 (currently)

Wonder if we'd have a nibble at Peter Wright

100% worth it if he could be secured with a second rounder or two

Yep. Me.

Is PW the sort that could play that second ruck role @Pennant St Dee?

Goodwin's comments in the post game pressor seemed to indicate that they would love another Brayshaw or Petracca in the contest.

Doubt there is one available.

I honestly think Ed would be more likely to retire than leave the club...

He's far too young to retire and literally the fittest player going around.

Everyone needs to calm down, it was reported that we are in talks with him, and clearly there is no rush as we are not concerned he will leave. We had other priorities with guys who were being chased hard like Petty.

Ed strikes me as the type of guy who screens his manager's calls and will eventually remember to sign a new contract when he finds time between bouldering.

He's a good enough player that if there was any indication he may leave, there would be a lot of noise being made about it in the media. Or if he was trying to get more money, his manager would float him around.

I'm not saying he will retire, but I can't see Ed going well into his 30s as I think he has a lot of interests outside of footy.

I think he will sign a 3 year contract and that may be his last one.

The model we should be the Port Adelaide midfield with pace and run. Rosee, Butters, Horne- Francis and Drew as the stopper.

Midfielders , midfield and more midfield who can run and gun

I can see that, I can equally see him playing until he's 35 because fitness comes easy to him, and he manages his outside interests just fine while playing, which allows him to financially supports those endeavours.

Windsor definitely meets that criteria.

Should be imminent. He usually leaves it late

You still need at least 1 bull who can win you the ball. Port have Wines (a Brownlow medalist). We just happen to have 3-4 of them (Trac, JV, Oliver and arguably Sparrow), which is why we have been good at the contested game.

I also think Trac just needs to accept that he is better for the team in a 60/40 forward/midfield role. He is one of the hardest matchups in that role, which creates a nightmare for just about any defensive system.

We also need to find a new role for JV - it seems that time has caught up with him.

Midfield to take us forward is: Oliver, Rivers, Windsor, McVee, #Pick 7. There is a lot of unknown in that mix but we have enough senior leaders around the club to aide in its development. Sparrow, Trac, Kozzy will all have some time running through it as well (JV can also contribute in the time that he remain playing).

Especially since the back half of his season has been pretty damn good.

While I'd like it done pretty soon, I can see Langdon as someone taking the cucumber boy approach (as in cool as a..)

Exactly the type we need that is rear to find give him 1.5 over 5 years, that would put us back in contention next year

I would try and prize him out with as much as we can afford, would make us a premiership threat again next year

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
