WHile i 100% agree with you, i am going to go out on a limb and say from a leadship POV i like what Goody did by rewarding players who displayed the values teh club wants.

Did the players take their opportunities, well taht is debatable, do I think they will make it, again debatable, but i do think it was good leadership.

Yeah, don't get that at all.  I hardly think I've see Laurie play a hard contested manner or with a defensive mindset.  In neither of the practice matches did he show any class and poise handling the ball that is suposely his one wood.  Look good on him if he goes on and proves me wrong, but from all I've seen, he's just not senior AFL standard.

We have plenty of other up and comming players like Wowewodin, Kynan Brown, Throstrup etc that are already ahead of him and don't see why we keep gifting him games or why we extended his contract.  Hope he's only getting paid peanuts.

Billings on the other hand had been great in both our practice matches and I thought it was a huge mistake to play him starting as the sub last week.

Indeed.

Tracc was far and away the best player IMO.

13 score involvements is nuts.

Indeed, I always underrate Trac because he gets the fumbles unlike Clarry, but Trac is just so explosive that he makes up for it eventually.

The return of BBB and TMac really straightened us up and the crumbers up forward in ANB , Chandler and Pickett were all on point.

Windsor and Howe continue to impress and Hore was desperate and very solid indeed, which was a very welcome return.

Gawn was huge , especially against a great ruck in English , and Clarry was at his dominant best, so powerful and clean.

Roo performed very well too.

Onwards and upwards!

What pleased me most about the win was the way we played / tried to play. Although not perfect at times ie wrong option, poor disposal, too slow moving the ball, we played a game style that can take us deep into September.

Not a fan of JVR in the ruck, rucking inside fwd 50 is one thing but not lining up at centre bounces.

Vintage BBB & TMac, Chandler firing again, Oliver getting ready to explode.

Thought we had our smalls in better positions today at times but little things like Kosi flying for a mark then no one at ground level when the ball spills.

Not getting carried away, good win but a few things to work on.

Great result DEES! Max & Clarry 🤝... Hopefully we are smart with Gawn. He was given longer spells on the bench. Maybe it was just because its hot. But I wouldn't mind seeing us do that throughout the season.

Here’s a funny post-game comment from one of the Doggies’ forums:

“There comes a time when a great coach realises the team needs a fresh voice. Where beverage is delivering yet another year on the relationship between Confucius - Ancient Teacup making and the Art of the Quilt, other coaches are actually driving the game forward.”

no idea how Bevo is kept on. He refuses to focus on defence and they have missed finals many times

Very good win, played four quarters and improved as the game went on.

Very pleasantly surprised by the output from Brown and McDonald.

The captain flexed his muscles and showed he's still the best in the business.

Good game from JVR, may very well be out best option for 2nd ruck.

May is the rock of Gibraltar. The astronaut must see him in his nightmares.

And... welcome back Mr Oliver. Make them all eat crow Clarrie.

Balls, I think most of the Bill love comes from a game against geelong 2nds in the rain when casey had an incredible win.

It was a BOG for him.

He definately has ability

Agree, not happy with JVR rucking in the centre or around the ground. Will be interesting to see what the FD do when Fullerton is ready for this level

Langdon might not stand out like his 21-22 seasons but I believe he’s started ok this year. He was clean today.
He’s still running more than everyone, he’s linking up well, just with less fanfare. He’s still very important to us.

He's still best 22 but the problem for him and us is that he can only play one role that we know of, and he is soft as butter. The wing role in our gameplan needs to make contests, and you can pretty much pen him down for losing 75% of his contests. I still have nightmares of his game against Sidebottom in the finals last year.

I say this as someone who thought he was our most important player in 2021.

I've heard the lore of all these great VFL games he's played, but I'm sorry every time he plays at AFL level he looks scared and out of his depth.

His rundown tackle was sublime. There’s some familiarities about this kid, just the way he moves. Caleb and Judd Mc are silky smooth with skill and time. ❤️💙

There's a certain #2 he reminds me of as well, not having been there to see it in person admittedly.

At the end of the day this for a team of our experience is a routine win, let’s enjoy it and move on. Any real judgement of players / gameplan should come against other top 6 aspirants, Collingwood, Carlton, Brisbane, GWS, Sydney & Port. On that ladder we are currently 0 & 1.

Half way through the game now.

It's almost like we didn't touch a footy over summer. So many of our players are FUMBLY. It's a bizarre part of the game, but seems like a confidence thing and something that can fix itself?

Honestly think we've cost ourselves 4-5 goals over two weeks by fumbling the ball when we're speeding out of the back half.

I think we can make judgments about 1st-2nd year players at the club but yeah, nothing this year is going to matter a whit to me until we win a final.

Impressive win. Tmac and BBB threw some egg on my face but happy to wear it. Oliver was brilliant today and I just want to send a big thanks to Hore who was really impressive of half back. Greay comeback.

A really solid performance today. Got jumped early, settled down and then dominated for almost the entire match. Can we get some love for ANB's dribble goal reminiscent of Trac in the grand final? What a champ. Having Ben Brown and TMac back made us so much more physically imposing. Barring injury I can't see Thommo or Schache ever playing again. And Oliver and Kozzie picking out targets inside 50, just so good to watch.

I'm frustrated at my favourite player from 2021 what can I say? I think the criticism is legitimate, even if he's not literally as soft as butter is (that is very soft, admittedly, in this weather).

A touch warm? 🥵 I don’t know how Gussy did it every week, hot or cold. I couldn’t wait to rip that thing off and drop kick it into the nearest bin.

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
