Why we must scrape into the 8

Most intelligent thing I read for a while. It would be a pity to miss the 8, even though we all know its a long shot. It'll be a summer of "What might have been".

I know we had injuries, but we also stuffed up in the first round against StKilda when we were injury free, but played crap. Also played the same rubbish football against the Dorks in round 2.

But mathematically, we still have a chance.

Ignorance FTW! You're forgetting that the team you're talking about is Melbourne. They'll get on a roll eventually, and then run out of steam. You know that... You also seem to be overlooking the fact that as of 7:30 tonight, we are going to be 0-8. That means to make the finals, we'll have to win 11 of our last 14 games, atleast.

I think the finals are out of reach due to our poor %. We would not only have to win 12 of our next 14, but we would have to dish out a few floggings to bring our % up.

Screw finals, i would rather test the entire list and see who has a future at the club. Then use our bottom position to get a good position in the draft.

I agree that we do need to start planning for next year. BUT that does not mean bringing in players who haven't earnt it e.g. Buckley, until they earn it (at least until the last 5 rounds or so and then only maybe bring them in). People keep calling for Buckley to play but he has not earnt it with his performances for Sandy.

Players like Wheatley and Miller who are still young but many have written off, need to be given another chance.

Give the young players in the team more game time, particularly game time on the ball for players like Petterd and Jones. Give them more responsibility.

Don't risk any players with injury. Particularly OP. Moloney should have all the time he needs to get it right. If Sylvia feels anything in his groin, don't risk it.

But DON'T blindly play youth. Play the players who deserve it. If it is between young and old and it is relatively close, chose young. But don't play Buckley ahead of Brown, for e.g., because Brown WILL give us more now, and most likely in the long term. If the young players are going to be any good, they will earn their place. If they can't earn their place at VFL level, how can they be expected to compete at AFL level.

Would love to see Newton ASAP. Even if it means having Dunn, Neitz, Robbo and Newton all in the same forwardline.

And then Frawley once he gets back into the swing of things.

Must keep trying to win. Tanking is a dirty word, and it is disgraceful for people to even suggest it.

Because we are not your average 7th or 8th finishing team

Injuries ahve destroyed us. If we have something close to our best team on the park, we are a top 3 side.

Therefore, if we sneak into the 8 with something resembling our best side, we wont be there to make up the numbers. We will be a legit shot at the flag from the lower part of the 8.

No tanking, no laying down. We must play our guts out to get to 11 or 12 wins. This team is too good to miss the Finals!! Do not let injuries beat us!!

We are not a top 3 side... if you were consider everyteam up and going injury free we would be a top 8 side just....

After todays pathetic performance against the Eagles we are lucky if we are that...

Time for a change.. And Daniher has to be the first one to be shown the door... you are now obligated ND to step down and give someone else a fresh start.

What the [censored] was I thinking

Wow, you got this one wrong.

What a surprise.

Be careful with your Kangaroos prediction this week, you don't want your 90% accuracy strike rate to drop.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
