Schache getting a lot of the ball as a key forward. Nibbler, Billings, Woey have hit him up on a lead with some beautiful passing.

Someone should check his locker for voodoo dolls of BBB , TMac, Petty and McAdam

With our forward stocks well down he gets yet another chance to show the football world he can make an impact- I’m not sure he has the ticker to do it but I hope he can surprise me

Some ruck tap drills in the middle with 3 ruckman taking turns Max, KFW & Schache tapping to Viney, Trac, Nibbler, Brayshaw, Sparrow, Billings, Laurie, Wowey on at a time.

This gives a good indication of who is in the midfield mix for Round 0.

Other potential currently in rehab are Oliver and Salem but perhaps not Round 0.

Forwards doing some goal kicking Chin, Kolt, Kozzy, JVR, Fritsch, Sestan

Shows just how decimated our tall forward line is. Schache of course is an option but for this drill he is practicing his ruck craft.

As mentioned earlier it is interesting that Kozzy was not with the "mids" group practicing the receiving from ruck taps.

Understand that he will mostly play forward but I was hoping he was earmarked for more midfield minutes based on the past few weeks at training on a Wednesday.

Assume he will still attend some centre bounces most likely at the beginnings of quarters.

@Demonland I understand we’re behind in the West, however title of the thread says Wednesday February 8th 2024. My watch, computer and phone all saying Wednesday February 7th

If decimated is reducing something by 10 percent we have been more than decimated this preseason!

So Petty, McAdam, BBB, Melk, Salem, Fullarton, Clarry, TMac and Hunter are all injured in some form!

Faaaark!

I'm very pleased. I had thought "decimated" meant reducing something by 90% to leave one-tenth. Having checked I'm pleased with the better definition of it meaning only one in ten rather than nine in ten.

(On the other hand, the historical, literal interpretation is that decimate meant "to kill one-tenth of a group as military punishment in the Roman army." But let's just ignore that detail.)

You’re suggesting #19 visited a Bayou coven during the off-season?

I'm really not seeing what the club saw in McAdam - regularly injured, lacks fitness and turns 29 in a few months. Hope he comes cheap.

Disappointing to hear that Petty is still miles off.

I can’t believe he cost us a 2nd rounder and Adelaide used his defection to turn the heat on Petty, but his talent has been evident when he’s been training, which has been most of the time.

He’s not the first MFC recruit to struggle in their first preseason with us. Happened with a much bigger name last year

Goody very happy with Kolt who was hard up on the boundary in the forward pocket with not a lot of space hitting up Spargo on the chest with a beautiful pass.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
