Recruited from the Western Bulldogs, the former top ten draft pick saw very little AFL action. He was leading goalkicker for Casey but disappointingly, didn’t make it onto the field when selected as a sub in the Semi Final against the Blues.

If you told me at the time we recruited Schache that we would subsequently go into a game without Petty, JVR, Melksham and BBB (with T Mac grossly out of form) and yet we still couldn’t find room for him in a depleted forward line, you’d probably wonder what the point of his recruitment was.

His decent accuracy would be a welcome boost to our forward line but I’m not sure what else he brings to the table.

Would be fighting with Fullerton for that potential back up ruck role next year.

Good luck Josh Schache play your role at Casey but unless you rekindle the footballer within you,  you will remain there. Whenever I think of Josh I remember that big hit that he took from Gus in the 3rd quarter of the granny when Gus was running white hot 🔥.

Assuming he will ruck a lot at Casey next year otherwise I do not understand why he received a contract extension

I can't remember - was the contract extension before or after his unused sub role v Blues?

Strange that - both the extension and his management v Blues.  Mystifying really.

I’d love to see Josh flourish if for no other reason than so as he won’t be remembered (by Dees fans) only as the unused sub. That’d be doing him a great disservice and isn’t what defines him.

I think poor James Jordon (aka Jordan Jones) is the definitive unused sub.

Toby Bedford not far behind.

Rewatched the 21 GF in which he played, though you’d be excused for thinking he didn’t get on.  In Casey games I’ve watched he seems to avoid the hard contact and doesn’t do so well in contested marking.

Spot on. Unfortunately it seems that "mongrel" or even desperation on the field cannot be taught. You either have it or you dont.

If he could even learn to play with the desperation of ANB or McVee he would be fine. However he's one of those players that lopes around half arsed & will never do the desperate 1 percenters.

Like his skills but needs some Mongrel, lots of it in fact!

I understand the initial decision to recruit Schache, and unfortunately he probably hurt his chances of playing more regular football with some fairly underwhelming efforts in round 7.

Why you would select a guy in a final, then not use him, is completely beyond me. But even that is less puzzling than giving him a new contract before the end of the trade & draft period.

I'm guessing our injury list would need to have at least 15 names on it before he is considered for senior games in 2024.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
