Jack Gunston

As I mentioned in another thread many clubs will come for JUH next year. Probably around if not above 5 x $1M.

Will Dogs have the money to keep him after the mega Naughton deal. They also need to recruit a key back

Definitely a club to keep an eye on (and of course will Beveridge be there at year's end)

A forward-line of Mcdonald/Brown, Gunston and Fritsch scares me to death given their poor ability to compete and pressure at ground level.

Fritsch is basically our Gunston. Two crafty forwards who are finishers, are medium/talls and provide next to no pressure on ground level.

I'd be baffled if we went after him.

Forward comes out of contract / requests trade = Melbourne must have interest 🙄

There’s no way we’re bringing in Gunston when we’re already likely to have Fritsch, McAdam and Smith as medium tall options and Melksham potentially coming in late in the year

A fine player, but I don't think his style would suit our 'system'.

The thing about the Naughton deal is it's like Clarry and Trac's deal. Such a long term that it provides flexibility and certainty to list management strategy and TPP management.

If Naughton had signed a shorter deal, say five years, then I think JUH would have been gettable.

That said, Croft coming in is another that threatens that key tall post.

I wouldn't be surprised if Naughton and Darcy end up taking the key back posts.

He was so bad this year he had to drop himself to the VFL. Only fired against WC which means nothing.

If I was Hawhtorn I'd be saying thanks but no thanks... not sure why they would need him back

How about Gunston + 30 to the Hawks for 63?

Gunston is 193 cms, just saying. He is taller than all 4 you named.

I agree that we don’t want him... but didn’t we try to recruit him 1 or 2 seasons ago? When we already had Fristch et al?

Should change his first name to Norman

Rumours a few years ago, but nothing last year as far as I know.

I’d have no issue with prime(ish) Gunston and Fritsch. Gunston could always defend well for his role when he was fit.

I don’t like it now he’s older and seemingly uncommitted to a team. And when we’re almost free of the veterans and surely ready to target a long term solution if Petty isn’t the answer.

McAdam's in.

Close thread.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
