we don't have any requirement to trade petty

he's under contract and will be a restricted free agent at the end of 2025

unless the crom or the pear come in with a juicy offer, i expect he'll be in red and blue next year...

...and fwiw rucci - who is pretty connected in sa medja - thinks he isn't comin back to sa

agree wholeheartedly. Make them pay an appropriate compensation. If he and the Crows want this they pay, not him and his agent but MFC.

The thing I find most interesting is the different rankings being presented are quite different, which bodes well for picking some late gems.

Must be a very even but deep draft from the different views of the 'experts'.

They're all scrambling to get their lists out. Here's Cal Twomey's Phantom Form Guide: Top draft prospects' July ranking

A few differences between this one and that of AFL Draft Central and the still glaring omissions of the Camporeale twins and Walsh from SA. My favourite is Harvey Langford who comes in at #4 here but was in the 20s in the Draft Central rankings.

1. Levi Ashcroft
2. Josh Smillie
3. Finn O'Sullivan
4. Harvey Langford
5. Murphy Reid
6. Jagga Smith
7. Luke Trainor
8. Sam Lalor
9. Sid Draper
10. Bo Allan
11. Leo Lombard
12. Taj Hotton
13. Tobie Travaglia
14. Harry Armstrong
15. Isaac Kako
16. Xavier Lindsay
17. Joe Berry
18. Jack Whitlock
19. Cooper Hynes
20. Tom Gross
21. Sam Marshall
22. Christian Moraes
23. Alex Dodson
24. Alixzander Tauru
25. Harrison Oliver
26. Matt Whitlock
27. Jobe Shanahan
28. Jonty Faull
29. Thomas Sims
30. Noah Mraz

He's an RFA so either this year or next, the balls in our court.

Given Adelaide have a F/S at ~ 10-15, they don't need their Pick 5 so we could give them Petty, 38 and 42 (for points) in exchange for Pick 5. They could alternatively try to split #5 with GCS 8 and 9, and use one of those picks for Petts whilst holding onto a pick for points, but it requires more from Adelaide to make that work.

We are winners either way i think. Either hold onto Petts, which will be better for it in 2025 with a full pre-season or we get a top 10 pick.

If Adel end up with pick there is zero chance they will trade it. Any Welsh bid will come after pick 5 so they can draft a player at pick 5 and also use later picks on Welsh. To say they dont need it is 1005 wrong. If it was pick 15 and Welsh was rated 10ish thats a different story.

Read somewhere the Crows would love to get Draper at pick 5 if he’s still there. Local lad who’s very highly rated. Not sure they will be keen to let pick 5 go if they think he will still be there.

Sanders was a very late entry to Norths NGA and will ruled to be ineligible for North so they never had a chance to take him as an NGA player

Any pick Adel throws up this year needs to be better than what Melb would receive as compensation under free agency formula

and it'll likely be a first round compo pick immediately after our pick, so - based on 2024 form - around pick 8-15

crom don't have anything in that spot to trade away

hence why we'll hold him to his contract

They could offer a future first if they are serious.
Or they could do a deal using their FF to get a first round pick off Suns or Brisbane this year.

i still think petty at 24-25 offers us far more while we are in the premiership window than an 18 year old speculative pick does, particularly in a midfield heavy draft

i still very much see him as our may / mcdonald replacement defensively

you are not wrong, but what i meant to say is that using Pick 5 for the F/S would be a complete waste. They ultimately need to decide on whether they want Draper or Petty. I don't think there is a world where they get all 3 unless they split the pick with GCS and hope Draper slips to 8-9 and trade the other one with Melbourne for Petty - but that is extremely unlikely to happen.

Agree 100%. I really hope he stays and I’d be happy to hold him to his last year even if he wants out but the offer isn’t good enough from our perspective.

However history would suggest if he wants out he will probably leave this year and I was just pointing out that the Crows would be able to get it done without using pick 5.

I can’t help but feel a bit excited about the depth of this years draft, certainly provides a number of opportunities for our recruitment team to fill a couple of gaping holes in the list.😁👍

I know there will be shifts and trades and moves and swaps and twisting and turns before picks are finalised.  But I tried to rank players and look at current ladder positions.  Here is run number 1 up to 50 live picks excluding the academy and father sons.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
