3/3 good results today 🥳

Unless your in a tipping comp. Think I have one for the weekend and that was the AFL sponsored eagle freebee.

Bolton is a genuine match winner isn't he?

Probably my favourite non Melbourne player. Just so good to watch. I reckon Kosi could be this good if he got more midfield time.

Freo soft and flakey as ever.  Great win away against all odds.

Bolton was brilliant for the most part.

Nanks did ok.

Cotchin, Short, Prestia (1st half) and Taranto vg also

The umps did their best to try and win it for them.... should give at least 1 brownlow vote to themselves.

We are 8-4 at the halfway point of the year, sitting third on the ladder, with the second best percentage, only just behind a team who had won three more games.

And $5.50 equal second favorite to win the flag.

We are playing the favourite in front of 90k on Monday and are 2.05 to win the game.

And you don't think my positivity is warranted?

I'm not sure about you bobby, have followed the dees for a long time.

A serious question.

If you dont think positivity is warranted now, in what scenario would you positivity be warranted?

When we don’t lose to sides like Fremantle and Essendon

Isn’t it a weird feeling? Feeling happy for Richmond?

Bad loss for Freo, they would need some results to go their way in the run home to make the finals.

All gives hope for Gold Coast and Richmond to finish higher than the Shockers as well.

I never hated Richmond (their fans are vile tho)

Should I seek help?

No. You are quite normal by your response.

Yes, but feeling happy for Hawthorn earlier today was worse.

That's your response to a serious question?

I guess after we got rolled by the very average giants in round 16 of the 2021 season,  managing only 55 points on a perfect day for footy at the g, you stopped watching us, such was your devastation.

Spoiler alert.

We won the flag that year.

I think some people don't see the forest for the trees. And subconsciously expect us to win every single game.

2021 was out best season since 1964.

2022 was our 2nd best home and away season since 1964 as well!

In 2018 we were 8-4 after 12 games, but with a lower percentage and we were 5th not 3rd.

There are only a couple of other seasons since 1964 that we have passed the half way point in a better position. We're doing ok and should try enjoying it. We've earnt it!

It's more about if we're not winning  it doesn't fit the expectation that we won a grand final with the list, thus...

a) coach doesn't have plan B

b)other coaches are stagnating

c) not hungry enough

d) bathwater

e) if you're standing still. you're going backwards and I demand we do more with the talent that we so obviously have.

which fails to take into account

a) how even the competition in, with player, coaching and ancillary staff resources spread across the league

b) nuances in training

c) the impact of injury (acknowledge in media or not) on personnel on a weekly basis across a 6 month competition.

etc etc

I think from memory we had only lost 2 games to that point?  2 from 15. Now it’s 4 from 12. Next 2 are Collingwood and Geelong at Geelong. Let’s park the conversation until 6pm Monday.

Geelong are now 8/1 for the Premiership (paying $9) after Brisbane lost today. They can't finish Top 4 (would need to win 10 of 11) and definitely need to win 6 of 11 (possibly 7) to get into the 8. They play Port Adelaide in Adelaide next week and a home game against Melbourne after the bye. Are still to play Collingwood at the MCG, Brisbane in Brisbane. Plus Port Adelaide for the 2nd time in Geelong. I'm clearly missing something here. How can they be so short?

It certainly wasn't in the 70s or 80s.

And the intervening years haven't been that much fun either.

Thankfully that has changed and I'm loving watching a unit who are serious contenders.

It is a lot easier now than in many seasons. But I doubt it will ever be easy (unless one day we top Collingwood's cakewalk with the first ever run of five premierships in a row. We can revisit this issue then ... 😉)

Because Geelong. Write them off at your peril despite the hard draw you’ve conveyed.

Chris Scott’s a freak of a coach that will get his side on some stupid 9 game winning streak, or 10 of last 11.

Are the only threat to Collingwood’s flag this year.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
