The whole narrative about Fritta being greedy is a joke. No way could he get the ball to Chandler without it being spoiled or having to loop it giving Kemp time to tackle or take possession. He did the right thing.

Absolute rubbish. He has form and you come up with a ridiculous excuse like that. That's also rude about Fritta's skills or any AFL player being unable to do that effectively.

Its strange when on the defensive all the reasons for Frittas selfishness are a joke.

Don't  get me wrong I think it was his best game for the year. He seemed freer in his movement and more importantly was jumping off the ground. Has he kicked straight he would have got4 or 5 goals. Look for a big game on Monday. Hope he is over that foot issue that seems to have derailed his foot up to now.

I reallly think Bailey is vastly underrated in the AFL and by some Dees fans as well. An  A grader in  IMO.

No, the joke is the ridiculous beat-up/pile-on on Fritsch on this non-issue. He has form? I recall one situation last year where he failed to handball on to Petracca in the goal square and was run down from behind so a certain goal was missed. Even then he was about 5m out and clearly didn't feel the pressure from behind. And this [censored] about others being rude about Fritta's skills. Seriously? Is that what we are doing? No, what we are doing if anything is the opposite. Fritsch had a kick for goal to an unguarded goal sqare that was well within his capabilities, or an alternative under-pressure high-risk handball. If both Fritsch and Chandler had been unmarked I would probably concur with the criticism, but if that was the case it would still probably have been a better option to waltz into the goal square and kick the goal rather than handball it. It's not the Fritsch supporters who are making stuff up here. It seems to me that it's his detractors re-writing the facts to fit the existing (false) narrative!

What mixer do you use? Rodecaster?

Actually don't suppose we could get a list of your current gear?

Great podcast! Kudos also to all those who submitted interested and well-informed questions.

BUT SERIOUSLY! Mentioning "loading" without first issuing a trigger warning??!!

Read the room or you'll be cancelled!

Not loading - increased training loads.

Or, if that is still too triggering - a heavy block of aerobic and power conditioning

And in any case, fatigue is the new concept requiring a trigger warning - loading is so 2022

No exuses!

At one point Kozzie flew for a speccie in front of MG when he could have stayed down for the spoils. This has been a repeating pattern, with KP continually preferencing goal of the year/ mark of the year. We are going nowhere until Melbourne gets back to tem first.

Not a lot worse in footy than knowing you are going to be a step ladder if this bloke is around.... Refer a missing CHB from pies...

😀 Just as long as you remember the loading theory ought also to apply to other teams we play. Looking forward to tomorrow’s episode. Cheers, Binman

It will only apply to some other teams we play.  There is no way Carlton is in a loading phase right now.  Very slight chance Freo was when we played them.  Collingwood will be definitely loading, perhaps even harder than we are right now given our respective records.  I will be hoping for a win this week, but will take very little away from the result as far as a form line for what may occur later in the year.

Rode Procaster is an exceptional broadcast mic. Judging from the sound I knew you were using something pretty good 🙂

Just listening to replay of podcast.

Love your work boys, but cant agree with binmans assessment of easy draw to finish ???

Look at ladder, we have only beaten 1 side in top 8 and all other wins are against 6 of the bottom 7 sides.

This would mean we have to play all sides inside 8 to finish.

Hope im wrong, but i can't see how  we beat pies on monday with the form we're in, and too think we can just flick a switch and play 2021 footy in the back end just doesn't sit well with me.

I was refering more to not having to travel as much, less short breaks between games and mutiple games at the G (six of our last eleven).

But on the difficulty of the run home, we have 11 more games and of teams currently in the top 8, we play the Pies, Lions , Cats away and Saints at Marvel.

The other seven games are against teams currently outside the 8, including games against the Crows (who can't win away) at the G, Roos, Hawks, Blues again and the Swans, who are paddling, away in the last round.

The Pies are slight favorites with the bookies, the Cats will be favs but at home we will be close to even money against the lions, maybe favs and we'll be short odds against the Saints.

So of our last 11 games we will likely start favorite in 8, maybe 9 of them. And no longer than say 2.30 (against the cats)

That's not a hard run home, particularly if you compare it to last season.

It's very similar to the difficulty of the Cats' run in to the finals last season i reckon.

Carlton could be doing something to get the extra reps in. Either that or what they are doing in their fitness program is missing the mark completely. None of their mids move forward of the ball at the moment or with any overlap.

True I didn't even bleep out last week's for [censored] sake.

The one after the 2021 GF was the best though.

We have been having too much travel and short breaks in recent weeks to start loading before this week. The next three weeks seem well set up for some higher conditioning loads.

Sounds like I was a bit off with the pressure according to the numbers you guys mentioned. It could have been pressure in certain areas and moments that I was impressed with. Forward half was very good I thought.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
