I wish more Demonlanders would come around to that line of thinking.

I agree. But what I want to see is us capitalising on our position.

Considering the injuries to key players this year in Gawn & Oliver, even though we haven’t beaten much (apparently) we are getting it done.

Amazing how the media never mentions that.

Probably should be talking about Petracca's game more.

32 possessions, 6 marks, 4 tackles, 7 clearances, 15 ground ball gets (next highest for either side was Walsh with 8), 9 score involvements but also 27 pressure acts, 11 of which were in the defensive half, all from 83% game time. Did it on offence and defence. Truly superb.

He’s really stood up (even more than normal), in the absence of Clarry. Reckon he’d be keen to have bestie back next week.

I agree, I thought he was superb last night. His defensive pressure was excellent. I loved seeing him in the defensive half, working really hard - played a big part in restricting them to 44 points I reckon

I sort of like it how we are going under the radar with mainstream media at this stage of the season.

Maybe, but the speed and skill at which Coll rebound will make May, Lever and Tommo poo their pants. Those guys tend to fumble, spill easy marks and lay clumsy tackles when under immense pressure. May is hopeless below his knees, Lever a butter fingers for marks when worried and Tommo works in slo mo. Great against a crappy side, not so much against top 4 sides

Unless you need to write us off as a coping mechanism, I have no idea why you would choose to see it that way. The bombers game is literally the only match where your comment has validity, and the entire team were down that day.

Extended break, huge crowd, underdog status, nothing to loose. I think we're upto our eyeballs in this one

I've already mentioned this before but going into this round we'd scored 33%-odd from those three games, which were 27% of the games we'd played. So the discrepancy isn't huge and isn't anywhere near big enough to mean that we can't score against other sides, because that's clearly untrue.

I suspect you don't like stats but on expected scores last night we won by 40-odd. Had we kicked some of the basic shots we missed, and won by 30+, there would be significantly less angst on here.

If Harmesy does cop a week, there’s one positive thing to come from it… he won’t be playing his 150th on KB. That means he’ll potentially be playing it at Mordor (🤮), but at least he’ll get the attention and appreciation he deserves and the entire banner dedicated to him. ❤️💙

I know Harmesy has his flaws, but I just love him so much.

I've seen the Harmes one on replay and I think he's likely to be suspended. Appears to me to run past the ball and bump, with some contact (probably minor) to the head. I can easily see that being graded "medium" impact, because the MRO has been obsessed with grading everything "medium" or above, and that's a week.

Third week in a row where the umpiring was appalling.

But zero push back from the media. It's pathetic.

The media are completely compliant with an afl shadow ban of legitimate critique or one of the most critical elements of the game.

There as a fair bit of push back about the free to Spargo. Article on fox, tweets from David King. Nothing much about the Fisher one though.

Thought the umpiring wasn’t the worst last night but I’m of the opinion they don’t do a very good job often enough.

He’s unlucky IMO. coming in to put pressure on and potentially lay a tackle and the Carlton player over cooked the handball and it leaves him with a split second to make a decision.

A few Collingwood supporters around here DZ.

I think after all the traveling we are finally starting to tweak our game for the G.

A few that don’t support Melbourne that’s for sure Wadda. Just bringing their misery and pessimism and spitting it all over the joint.

A poster on the Game day thread posted we were a certainty to lose last night and it was met with a love heart reaction by someone. Like WTF?

Not at all.  in fact I've quoted stats in my posts from time to time.  Stats have their place but they don't tell the full story and can be misleading at times.

If you're expanding the definition beyond the bottom 3, then that applies to everyone.

Since Round 2 Collingwood's only scored over 100 twice, against GWS and North.

Since Round 1 Port Adelaide's only scored over 100 twice, against West Coast and North. They struggled to score against Sydney without a backline and then their other low scores have been against good sides (Collingwood, the Dogs, us).

Brisbane's five lowest scores this year have been against five of the six best sides they've played (Port, the Dogs, us, Adelaide, Essendon, with the 6th being Collingwood).

Adelaide's three lowest scores have been against three strong sides in the Dogs, Collingwood and Geelong in Geelong.

The Dogs have only scored 100 once, against Fremantle during Fremantle's losing streak, and their four lowest scores were against us, Brisbane, Port Adelaide and Gold Coast.

I'm guessing you're saying he's not playing well?

2.1 from 8 touches, 3 marks, with 1 tackle, reads pretty standard I'd have thought?

Let's see what the scoring is like in the second half of the season when we play the better teams.  We've had a soft draw so far

Our first half was reasonably tough. When you’re in the top 2-4 teams, you’ve got more soft games than tough just on a ladder position perspective. However I’d say all bar 3 sides are pretty tough games, especially at their home grounds, often interstate in different conditions with hostile crowds and different sized grounds.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
