What Iโ€™m most looking forward to this weekend in order of preference (aside from our game of course)

1.ย ย ย ย  JVR debut

2.ย ย ย ย  The Western Derby #deathride (would be no.1 any other weekend)

3.ย ย ย ย  Geelong going 0-3 (more of a wish this one. Come on Suns)

I see that St Kilda are celebrating their 150th anniversary this weekend.

Among all the celebrations, the parade of their Premiership Cup should be quite the spectacle.

Well .... they certainly won't need a Moomba style float!

They'll ย be able to push it along in a ribbon bedecked wheelbarrow. ( maybe sponsored by Bunnings)

I reckon there would enough timber in those 27 (count 'em, 27) wooden spoons to build a suitable vessel.

I'm betting tonight will be a free kick bulldogs night.

You were right.

Four goals from free kicks out of 10 goals, for the dogs.

They started the game with a free kick advantage, then they became even, and by the end 21 to 15. So the first 4, then the last 6 (calculated guessing).

How do they get that advantage and some with "ify" and soft calls?

Good prediction.ย

Of all the Victorian teams bulldogs have received a blessed run the past decade. Interstate team like numbers.ย

Tonight's game could be a beauty.ย

Great test for the tigers, their young brigade should be fast enough to keep up with the manic style of Collingwood.ย

Whether they are skilled enough?ย

Collywobbles seem to be the benchmark early this season.

I will be surprised if it is a beauty. There is every chance that the filth will [censored] the tiges on current form.

Tigers lost 4 good quality players. their depth is seriously being tested.ย  their bottom 10 players are poor

Pies will smash them.ย  will be over by half time

Reckon Iโ€™d prefer tiges win this one. Pies building up too much momentumย

Except for our game this year where surprisingly we got the rub of the green.

We need a spiteful emoji.ย

Im still a bit iffy on the Pies as well. They look great, but i have a hunch that once their vulnerability is exposed, it'll be a house of cards moment.ย

Not many teams will have the ammunition to do it, but i think the Tigers who apply a lot of ball carrier pressure will at least be able to slow them down on transition. Contest and clearance has been a weakness for the Pies in prior years and Mitchell has been a welcomed addition.

Pies will win, but not as much as others think and i reckon we'll see the first signs of vulnerability tonight - just a hunch.ย

I really really really hope you're right. For such an expansive game style they're playing like they get the answers to the exam beforehand.

Cox out injured. It could get interesting if Cameron gets an injury too.

Bit of rain around tonight, wonder if that might affect things much

if it sticks around, it will for sure. No way the Pies can move with speed tonight. Will be a territory battle with surge like ball movement... That is the tigers 1-wood.ย

It is why I thought the umpires had stopped giving the Dogs the "iffy" free's.

Last night showed me, no change.

How would Collingwood go in the wet?

Head over the ball and determination may outdo, skills and speed.

With the wet, I reckon it makes it a closer contest and probably, a low scoring game.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

Iโ€™ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we wonโ€™t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything youโ€™d like to ask or say below and weโ€™ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics youโ€™d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
