hawks aren’t tanking. they just traded their best mids so they will clearly finish last. Mitchell being a club champ will get him 2+ years to prove himself so he can finish last. then win 8 games next year and media will congratulate them. much smarter than winning 6-8 games this year and then finals would be expected

You make it sound so easy.
They are Tanking by choice and should be called out for it

You know what's horrible about Essendon winning. The arrogant fans are gloating, brad Scott is smiling & they're sitting 3rd on the ladder

It’s the war on Rugby League

Tasmania have nothing to do with it.
They already watch the game

My understanding is that the AFL wanted two teams in the Rugby states so that each weekend there is an actual game that takes place in the cities  (taking the assumption that Gold Coast is almost a suburb of Brisbane) Same logic can also apply to SA and WA.
I used to wonder why GWS was say not established / relocated to Canberra.  (which I still think would make sense to me).
But on the other hand if / when a team is established in Tasmania, this would be in conflict with strategy of ‘a game every week’!
In other words, I have no idea🙃

What the hell do you think tanking is?

They have deliberately made their team awful to get draft picks.

They are tanking harder than they did in 03/04.

looking like we'll hold our spot in the 8

Just lost it…

I'm uncomfortable with undefeated teams. Especially Essendon if they go 3-0 next week.

That is exactly what it is

Games are on the East Coast of the Country every weekend = Advertising Revenue

They are making a lot of money…

GWS starting to go into a downward spiral. 12-16 is probably the best they can hope for.

You wonder if the AFL will give them assistance in the draft etc. I assume they have access to NSW players on the same basis as the Swans

it is easy. you don’t need to educate players to lose or change players into weird positions

trade out good senior players and teach the kids to win. not tanking. i wish we did it the right way but we move on

They will quite possibly be 4 zip when we play them in Adelaide. Teams like Essendon, when they get on a roll, will be hard to stop.

pretty simple. it’s deliberately playing to lose. or coaching making moves to throw the game.

trading out senior guys for draft picks is not tanking. or do you think it is?

I really have to repeat my earlier question but pose it to GWS. Why are we sticking with this experiment?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
