This.  I have a lot of respect for Doggies fans, they're not abusive and always respectful of their opposition.  I wish all supporters can be like Doggies fans.

Ever stood in the outer at the Western oval back in the day?

Quite often, actually.  My best friend from high school in the 80s used to take me with her family out to Western Oval.  We always had heaps of fun.

bulldogs remind of a supercoach team. full up with 6-8 stars and then the rest of the team is NQRs

and don’t worry about defence. we’ll be right

Absolutely. Never any dramas. There's always a few blockheads around at any ground, but on the whole, the Western Oval was okay (and brilliant in 1987).

Was there at the Western Oval in the last round of 1987. Saw us beat the Dogs and get into the finals for the first time into my life. As I remember it, we needed Hawthorn to beat Geelong at Kardinia Park to get into the finals and the unforgettable roar came over the ground when someone heard on the radio and shared that Dunstall had kicked the winning goal. Was also there at the Western Oval in 1976 final round when we needed to beat the Dogs to get into the finals for the first time in my life. On that occasion I think there was a draw in another game which meant we missed out on the finals. I was devastated. I'll be there at the G tomorrow and am looking forward to tomorrow's game against the Dogs. Go MELBOURNE!

Pretty considered comments really.

I thought this was as an excellent summary of our game plan in a nutshell:

  • 'They worked so hard to gut run and outnumber the Tigers on the weekend. They created overlap and had multiple options moving the ball forward for large parts of the game.'

And this comment was also perceptive:

  •  watched the Demons play the Tigers in the practice match. Their ball movement was incredibly slick; they were humming like a well-oiled machine. They didn't even seem to have any of the normal early-season rust. That's what scares me more than any of their individual players

These two comments from a couple of switched on doggies fans were very prescient.

Could have been written about this game

Sorry Kat DF I can't agree with you here. I've been going to footy at all grounds for 35 plus years and the only time I've nearly been in physical altercations has been with Bulldogs fans. Only once have i had any trouble with any other club and that was when I was paying out on Stephen Milne for his indiscretions. Never had a problem with any of the worst clubs that people don't like, even at their home grounds. Maybe it's because I fit in well with them. Bulldogs fans to me were the bottom of the pit. Except now i LOVE them because their Club gave us a Flag in my lifetime.

The comments section from Bulldogs fans in this tweet is pretty entertaining.

Nah the coach caring more about his teeth than coaching is the best.

  • GAMEDAY: Western Bulldogs

It's Game Day and the Demons will be running out on the field with a new Head Coach, albeit a caretaker, for the first time in 3,060 days when they face the Western Bulldogs at the MCG today. What do you want to see from the Demons in the first match of the Post Simon Goodwin era?

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.
