Ummmmm u forget a game???

Geelong getting smashed but are +12 in f50s - no Cameron or Hawkins though. Get those matchups right and you go a long way to beating the reigning premiers

Hawkins sooner or later is going to fall off the perch. This year may just maybe that year.

Dunkley, Ashcroft, Gunston In…. They’ll be hard to beat this yr

And we picked up Hunter and Grundy. The Lions beat us in the semi last year and now we’ll never hear the end of it. A 13 point victory, with the injuries we had. That’s the only game they can salvage from the last 4 years of final. The Lions get off on flogging the weaker sides and the media jumps on board. This year the Lions should only be judged on how they play against us, Geelong, Sydney and Collingwood. Freo and Richmond to a lesser extent.

FT | It may only be pre-season, but Brisbane Lions have made a powerful flag statement against Geelong Cats.

That was the headline by Fox Footy on FB, ridiculous.

Exactly, the blow torch needs to be applied to every game they have against top line opposition.

All signs point to them being hard to beat but they must shed the flakey tag.

Didn’t they lose Marcus Adams to concussion? If not him it was another key defender and I personally believe Andrews is a touch overrated.

Are we a sneaky chance for the Ansett Cup...or am I living in the past?

No you're right it was Adams. Sounds like he's really struggling with that head knock he got late last year which is pretty disturbing actually.

Andrews is akin to Lever and would struggle to be the main post down back.

We’ve had the no.1 defence for the last 2 seasons.
Not sure how our midfield has ranked the last couple of seasons but I’m guessing it would have been in the top 4. With the addition of Hunter & Grundy along side Oliver, Petracca, Langdon, Viney and Gawn I’d like to think we will have a top 2 if not the best midfield in the comp.
We have the best medium sized fwd in Fritsch and arguably the best small in Pickett (some would argue Stengle and fair enough). Brown is obviously nearing the end but is still serviceable and TMac can hold his own without staring.
I’m in a group chat and bet with mates with my mates, one a Pies and one a Swans supporter. One thinks Melbourne hands down has the best list and the other thinks it’s between us and Geelong. But one thing we all agree on is that anything other than a premiership for the Dees is a massive fail.

Wasn’t saying we won’t be hard to beat.

I just think they have a really good list (underperformed last 24 months) that got significantly better in the off-season. Their defence and what is between the ears the question marks though.

2 seasons is a long time to be underperforming, but have they? They dominate by big margins every team placed 6th through to 18th. IMO they’ve been a good side but never been great.

Agreed, I think their defence is overrated.

Also agreed, I think they don’t don’t like being hit hard, they strike me as a team that really have to build themselves up for a tough game which they would have against us in the semi final last year but couldn’t sustain it two weeks running, they held on against Geelong (just) being 4 goals down at 1/2 time only to 9 goals down by 3/4 time.

Top 4 finish 2021 and then a prelim last yr (with 2 finals wins and 15 regular-season wins) - they’ve hardly been awful.

I just reckon they get better this year from an already-strong position.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
