With Fritta as the third tall, and with both Gawn/Grundy on the field, IMHO we can only have one of BBB and TMac as the No 1 forward target. Both have the turning circle of the titanic and apply little forward pressure when the ball hits the deck. JVR for me is the second tall given his followup work at ground level. I'd give the extra spot to Chandler or Milkshake.

  1. The Titanic actually had a pretty good turning circle - it was the Queen Mary that had problems in thatย domain.
  2. Just checking, you are talking about the centre half forward and full forward that played in Melbourne's first premiership in 57 years, just 15 months ago,ย kicking five goals between them?
  3. JVR = maybe a superstar - hasn't played one game of senior footy.

RDB, if you had said Coaches Fixer I would have agreed wholeheartedly, errand boy gives him no credo.!!

JJ is tracking similar to Simon Black. See a lot of traits that are alike.

If true, then Lewis is much sillier than I thought. Jordon and Black are barely playing the same sport, let alone comparable as footballers. Black player 300 games, won a Brownlow, a norm smith, played in three flags, won three B&F and captained his club. JJ will be very fortunate to emulate one of those.ย

Mate, settle down. Jordon Lewis is not the only making these comparisons, the well respected Mongrel Punt had this to say last year;

"Jordon played 22 games in his rookie season and slotted in as a peripheral component of the Melbourne midfield with a minimum of fuss. Comparisons to Brisbane champion, Simon Black, had me raising my eyebrows โ€“ it is always tough to place a label on an unproven young talent like that. However, there was nothing about the way he played the game that would lead me to think those comparisons were too outlandish. Jordon was composed, balanced, and used the footy well. His vision was excellent and like many young players, he did not seem to lose too much steam throughout the home and away season."

No one is claiming that JJ will reach the dizzy heights that SB did, as you may believe we are saying. That is absurd. What I mean is that the way JJ plays reminds me, and I'm sure others, of the way SB played. He is having a very solid pre-season. Trackwatchers have commented on his composure, his hardness around the ball and his ability to think his way through traffic. SB had these attributes in spades.

Brayshaw for Salem's role, he's in trouble with this thyroid thing damn it.

I think we have so many options it could be like Ice hockey with 'Lines' rolling through the midfield.ย

Bowey gets another go. Sparrow is not a lock for me yet, yes he's a strong good looking fella, but that 4th midfield spot could go many ways, If Rivers wants it more then fine. If Hunter was a better tackler he might also be in consideration for ANB's spot, leaving a wing for Gus, but he's not. I don't want to see Milkshake playing, it means things have gone bad. Hibberd is a sub/specialist I am willing to see him go a bit longer. Chandler can have a go at Harmes spot. Need to be sold on JJ, seems too nice not convinced of his best role. Spargo is a key player, his assists are great.

That's my bright idea. Grundy to the back pocket both Gawn and Grundy to the backline. van Rooyen, Brown and McDonald forward. I'm hopeful Melksham will be in the team but I have a feeling Spargo will keep his spot.

SONS I would have Rivers in for Hibberd, Bowey in for Salem, Grundy, Sparrow, Harmes, Spargo and JJ on the bench and Chandler, Turner and Howes as Emergencies.

Looks to me like there are about a dozen players competing for the last few of uncertain spots in the team, almost all of them mid-sized types ranging from mature Hibberd, Harmes, Nibbler and Dunstan to younger Rivers, Jordon, Sparrow, Bowey and the so far untested kids like Woey and Laurie.

Actually, there's an interesting hypothetical contest of some very similar players.

Grundy has been left out of this posterโ€™s team for reasons we mug supporters canโ€™t fathom.

i canโ€™t personally see how Grundy is not already in our top 25 players when you look at his performances at the pies.

For Round 1 maybe.

SONS has made no comment on his team without Grundy so I believe he just forgot to put him in other wise I would like him to justify why not ?ย

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
