Max Gawn on Leadership.

Agree Monbon what a man, he is very smart, deep and aware. I love his honesty and desire to help build and maintain a safe workplace for all teammates and to live to the four core values that the club is built on.!!!!

Poor old Max needs to wolverine his ribs with adamantium, to protect himself from the countless blows he has sustained these past few years.

How many frees has he been awarded because of this and how many players have been suspended for striking/rough conduct? Oh that’s right, zero. If he was wearing a Bulldogs or hoops jumper it would be a different story.

Maxy, a living legend ... great leader. I had a strong impression earlier, having read his book at the end of the Premiership achievement, that he really cares about the team, its individual components, and sets examples and marques of behaviour, and thereby, links components of the MFC to these standards. All these matters are achieved with humility, thoughtful care and observable benchmarks. The team has only benefitted from his extensive inputs and examples.

Needs a metal plate inserted at the back of his skull. Disgusting how the umps seem to miss the constant punches to the back of his head.

They are pretty hard to miss FITB. They just don’t care.

Anything you want to know about leadership, he's your man.

Ticks all the boxes.

Love the interview. What’s going on with the pronunciation of “Petracca”, we saw Christian mouth “it’s Pet-rah-ca FFS” at the Brownlow but in this interview Max says “Petracka” about 30 times. Is he baiting him?

Great pod, thanks!

Out of every player on every AFL list, Max would be my first choice as skip.  We are so lucky to have him!

Maybe a spiked headband would eventually deter a few?

Maggots don’t give a damn.

  • GAMEDAY: Fremantle

It’s Game Day and the Demons have made the long trip west to take on Fremantle tonight at Optus Stadium. Can Melbourne make it two from two to start the season, and what are you hoping to see from the Dees under the lights in Perth?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
