On the membership numbers, obviously a lot of our attention is elsewhere at the moment, but it's one of several topics about our team & club's future with AFLW that I'd really like to hear others' thoughts on, especially since this site is the main hub of men's members. I suspect that's an area where we're perhaps not getting as much conversion as other clubs. Will try to remember to re-visit this after we've all finished celebrating/commiserating!!

This time in 48 hours...

I've already got butterflies 😬

What's your tip DIO?

I’m tipping Demon by 20+ points going away in the Grannie  with Bannon and Harris both playing blinders. The perfect introduction for the men’s 2023 season where they will be unstoppable with their elite All Australian ruck combination……..

Last banner-making sesh for the year. 😭

Anyone interested in seeing how we roll watch the ABC news tonight. Film crew just left so now we’re all back to our feral selves. 😁

Some squadders take their love for the Dees to a whole new level…

After watching Paxy last week, I'm tipping her for BOG. She's looking so fierce. I hope she rocks the friendly fire head gear one more time.

Dees by 3 points.

I assume considering they didn't have goal posts a week or two ago the penultimate showcase AFLW game of the season will not have VTR goal line review technology in place.

Paxy has been brilliant this season, I’ve loved watching her play

Daisy Pearce: the face of a generation intent on breaking AFLW premiership duck

Nice write up.

There's a link through this article to a podcast interview with Daisy as well.

No, that’s Sophie our esteemed leader. She told me she’s had randoms approach her at matches, training sessions etc. asking her, “are you WCW?” 😁

Great timing Gil

He'll be in a corporate box so no need to worry

Probs a good thing I can’t be there tomorrow. There’s not a sunscreen in the world strong enough to stop me from being burned to a crisp in 35 degree weather.

That’s what I’m telling myself, anyways 😢

He is apparently not attending the GF.

No surprise. Clearly the AFLW is not high on his list of priorities.

He is doing a walk through of his new $13m home.

The FAQs include "can I bring my dog to the Grand final" haha

Probably fits in with the age old Ipswich tradition of betting on dog fights.

We're pumped for tomorrow. Just been to Logan and bought a tricked up twin turbo Hyundai excel. We've fitted a brand new set of retreads to the rear. We'll be lighting her up with some victory donughts in the Springfield shopping centre car park after we win.

Booked in for a southern cross neck tatt this arvo.

Go Dees

From the AFL website

HB: S.Heath 30 M.Gay 3 S.Goldrick 23
C: S.Lampard 8 T.Hanks 5 B.Mackin 31
HF: A.Bannan 16 K.Paxman 4 K.Hore 10
F: D.Pearce - C 6 T.Harris 7
Foll: L.Pearce 15 O.Purcell 2 E.West 11
I/C: M.Chaplin 13 C.Sherriff 18 L.Mithen 14 E.Zanker 29 M.Fitzsimon 24

Emerg: C.Wilson 20 J.Ivey 19 M.Caris 21

In: None
Out: None

Great we go in with no changes.

I saw some vision of the Springfield venue, the surface is looking good. Amazing job by the curators. Earlier in the week I saw some vision, where the waves between the slabs were obvious. Looked like they rolled the area where the slabs join, and have now rolled the entire surface. Lots of sun, has probably also helped. Would have hated to see the surface effect the game.

Enjoy the game everybody.

I think we are a well balanced team and have what it takes to create a good game.

Go Dees.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
