Shambolic. Assuming the weekend of the GF was known when the H&A draw was released then all competing clubs outside Victoria should have been told to nominate and secure an AFL standard ground at that time if they wanted to host it. Not an issue for Victorian clubs as the AFL own Docklands Stadium.

That’s so sensible and logical that it’s no wonder the AFL didn’t think that way. 🙄

They’re clearly comfortable with making [censored] up as they go along. This entire season has been taxing and so the thought of not being able to attend really bites. And not just for us fans, but for the players. Attendance isn’t great at H&A games as it is, so I imagine they’d be sadly lacking support in QLD.

Now it’s official…

Just gotta hope Adelaide win tonight. If they do, and we win tomorrow, the GF will be on Sunday at Marvel. If Brisbane win tonight it’ll be at Springfield (wherever the hell that is). This sucks so much.

I would have thought they had a vested interest in promoting the AFLW game.

Seems getting a small advantage (home), no crowds, minimal atmosphere and no corporates is the priority.

Hope Adelaide do them.

Devil’s advocate :

Brisbane finished top and earned the right to a home GF if they make it. With the Gabba and Metricon unavailable, they’ve lobbied hard for the next best option in their home state.
If the same scenario was applied to MFC, where the G and Marvel were unavailable, I would expect our club to also lobby hard for the next best option and keep the GF in our state.
Springfield is a ****ty inadequate venue and it sucks for the spectacle of AFLW, but it’s the Lion’s prerogative.
Go Crows.
CARNA****INDEEEEEEGRRRRLS!

I dislike the Crows AFLW team but I sure hope they win tonight

And in terms of venue, if a suitable venue was not available in Victoria, and I don't consider Casey is appropriate for AFLW grand final, I would acquiesce to play inter-state. Inter-state mens teams play the granny at G so no reason why it should be any different for AFLW. The Lions should understand that as well

For starters we have to win tomorrow then if Brisbane win tonight we travel out to the south western suburbs of Brisbane. Any supporters coming up will need to hire a car or get a train out to Springfield. Its a bit out of the way however should this happen then this family will take a drive out to watch the Dees live. As with most of you be good for the Crows and us to win then we get the support in Melbourne this side needs. Be lucky to get 50 of us up here in Qld to go out to Springfield.

Couldn’t agree more.

The argument that Brisbane get a “home” grand final for finishing on top would be all well and good if every other ”rule” of the comp was observed. But they’re not.The AFL are cherry-picking what should be adhered to. For example, in Round 2 North were told at the last minute that their game vs. us was being moved to the MCG as curtain-raiser to our men’s match. That meant North W fans had to shell out for tickets for the whole day’s program. Was that fair????

That’s awesome that your family can get to the game should it be played in Ipswich. The girls will need all the support they can get. But I’m thinking of some Demon Army members who are so dedicated and give up so much of their time (and effort and money) and have done for the whole seven seasons but who simply can’t afford to fly to Brisbane a month out from Christmas. Had this season not been sprung on everyone with bugger all notice these diehards would’ve been right since they budget for any and all interstate games. What a way to be rewarded for working tirelessly for our Club and in particular our W team.

Hard to see Adelaide winning this. Everything looks a struggle while Brisbane look dangerous going forward.

There doesn't appear to be a thread for tonight's game. I'll start. They cannot be fair dinkum with these non- holding the ball decisions. Brisbane getting the rub of the green big time.

So infuriating.

But they really should be three goals up anyways. Jess Wardlaw a little sloppy.

The umpires non call when it was clearly holding the ball allowed Brisbane to kick inside 50 and receive a 50:50 free and convert.  That’s the quarter time difference, a free kick.  Hopefully over the course of the game it evens out.

Never a freekick to Wardlaw but regardless the Lions look the better team. They have much more outside run than the Crows

I've been watching the game RTG ( and I know we've discussed this previously) but I'm certain the umps deliberately ignore all but the most blatant in order to keep the game flowing.

The appeal of the sheila's game is its pace and constant play on. I reckon this has been recognised and is being encouraged by keeping the frees out of it.

I remember BBO. I guess the umps have a different interpretation of blatant to me. But I think you’re right.

Jeez the Crows are a slow lumbering outfit. This game is done and dusted

Springfield recreation centre will be hosting the showcase game unfortunately

The way the AFL runs this competition there's something appropriate about playing the Grand Final at a local park.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

  • PREGAME: Sydney

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
