KICKING TECHNIQUE

Recommended Posts

Cameron Bruce, who (I reckon) is doing a great job this season, is gradually becoming a worse kick. His kicking was great at the start of his career, but now it's poor. He's always had a hook foot, but that's getting worse, and so is the way the ball spins off his boot, making targets hard to pinpoint. He's being too careless in how he drops the ball to his foot. He doesn't guide the ball in a controlled way to his foot, but sort of throws it in a haphazard way. This requires practice, after he studies replays of his kicking on video. There's no doubt he has the ball-skills and nous to improve this vital part of his game.

Mattie Bate , against Geelong, wasletting the ball topple too far forward when dropping the ball, resulting in "tumble-punts" which drop short. He improved a lot in that regard against Sydney.

Perhaps the kicking standards of the rest of the team is rubbing off on Cameron Bruce ! At least Bate can kick long, the way their kicking has been they may as well just kick it as long and stright as they can and hope the forwards can apply some pressure and keep the ball from rebounding immediately. What is the point of chipping it around then turning it over as they have done all season ?

This thread is about Cam's kicking and this has become a concern. Early in his career he was a dependable kick - kicked a couple of bags!!

Now, his kicking is erratic and unreliable and is a liability. Nothing truer than when he was running into an open goal with momentum and misses everything.. yes the ball may have been wet but honestly, if he wants to be considered a champion, then he has to kick those goals...

I am sure Chris Fagan has worked with him like he did robbo, and paul williams was once of the best kicks on the run, so hopefully the kicking style and ball drop can be corrected!!

However his hard work on the field should be an inspiration for all to follow...

I actually think Brucey had a much better kicking game against the Swans. Kicked more drop punts that spun properly than he has for a few weeks. His trouble is that he drops the ball too early, so it has a long time to spin anyway before it hits his boot.

you would think that skills like this would be basic, like a batsmen working on his feet or a bowler using his front arm...ou would think that they would constantly be coachng and reviewing on video these types of techniques...

Kicking and bowling and batting can always be improved, some people just get lazy and gradually there kicking or bowling or whatever get worse and worse. This is very much Cam Bruces problem and he should take some time over this year 2 improve it!! And hopefully we can see a better than ever kick from Bruce!! WOO!!

i hope he works it out

bruce is a really good footballer who could rise way up if he gets his kicking back

Really good is selling him short. He is a great player, lets not forget he was Brownlow favourite 11 rounds into last year.

Cameron Bruce's kicking is getting worse and worse. He must seek advice from a good exponent of kicking(eg Paul Wheatley). He must listen to his advice, and practise, practise, practise.

He has fantastic hand-eye co-ordination. He should approach it like a pro golfer who's not swinging well, temporarily. He should just watch himself on video, listen to experts, and practise , practise, practise. It's all that's lacking in his game, and is eminently fixable for someone with skills like his.(not like Richo or Dutchy, who are NEVER going to be good kicks and never were, whereas Cam USED to be a good kick).

He is the worst kick in the AFL

Just pray that Bruces kicking standards dont rub off on the rest of the team

He is best suited in the centre as a clearance player, whether by kicking OR handballing to our runners. When I see Bruce in the centre, I feel confident of our clearances. He doesnt belong in the forward line, & until his kicking improves, he should stay in the centre where he plays his best footy.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
