Watching footy for 40+ years and never been so nervous during a 12-goal thumping.

Oh well, no point ruing what might have been, we’ve clearly got the talent to win the thing.

Funny to think that had they been able to do it, the women, like the men, would have snatched the minor premiership right at the death, albeit by vastly different margins.

I actually think 2nd spot has some pluses.  There are 3 top sides in the comp and we meet one when there's a second chance, win and we likely avoid the other in the prelim!

Is anyone worried about our easy draw? Adelaide will be a different proposition. Great win by the girls but gee have we had some easy games recently.

We really have had most of the games our way. No score board pressure and our tackling have forced the errors in our opposition. We have been playing freely. It will be interesting if the opposition start scoring well and they don't panic when we come at them.

The yips could easily take over if we start panicking.

Hoping winning form gets our confidence high and we continue the fast, hard and attacking game. Would hate to see us drop the bundle. Though we possibly will need to try some tempo footy if we start losing control.

We also have been playing in poor environmental conditions. It will be interesting to see how we go when skilled play is easier to do.

They say finals are won by pressure and the backline. In this we have been doing very well.

I think we are on a mission, we will be too, disciplined, resistant, hardened and strong willed.

It wasn't a disadvantage for the Geelong mens team this year. We've had hard draws to complete recent seasons and it took its toll. I much prefer the easier run home

Tend to agree.

Us and the Lions are the standout teams. I don't fear the Crows this year. I don't think we should fear playing an inter-state granny if it comes to it the only disappointment is I won't be able to go to Brisbane to attend.

Didn’t hurt the Geelong AFL side this year!!

I will go to Brisbane if we make the GF (it’s difficult to see Brisbane not winning through). Anyone other Demonlanders thinking of going?

I’ll definitely go. ❤️💙

We're in the northern Rivers NSW. We'll be there

I’ve just read The Age summary of the game. They didn’t have Libby Birch in the best. Can you believe it? She was outstanding.

I’m confident we’ll make it to the GF and just as confident we’ll win (anyone, anywhere, anytime) even if up against Brisbane, and even if it’s played in Brisbane.

What I’m worried about is the crowd size and in particular that we’d be so outnumbered.

I intend on going to Brisbane if we play there (even if it means selling a kidney - pretty sure I’ve still got one left 🤔) but understandably not many Victorians will be able to attend. Therefore I’m hoping that the GF is staged at Marvel or Ikon. Soz, interstate sides, not Soz. 😁

Agree. The lot of backline players unfortunately.

Realistically you'd need to put all 18 in the best yesterday.

Did anyone else hear the rumour mentioned on this week’s AFLW Dee Brief poddy that the GF will be played at Docklands regardless of who makes it?

I asked Mitch and Mandy (the pod hosts) about that and they said it will be played at Marvel, it’s just that it’s not official yet.

What about the prelim?

If the GF is to be at the Gabba(?) it'd be good for the girls to experience a 'stadium' final in the lead-up.

True. But I doubt very much the GF would be at the Gabba.

And not the end of the world if it’s at Metricon. We’ve won our last three matches there.

Ah, that's right, they have a 'suburban' ground, too?

p.s. Noticed Zede put her 'tail up yesterday. Waddayareckon? (I had wondered when someone would start to be concerned about putting an eye out!)

I love Edo, tail up or down! I’ll even forgive her for tucking her guernsey into her shorts.
There’s a lady in the DA, around 80yo and Eden is her favourite player. I asked her why Eden? She said, “She has fabulous hair!” 🤣

I’m hearing we play Adelaide at Ikon on Friday night.

Won't be at the Gabba. It's booked for cricket. If Lions host it will be on the Gold Coast

So the one point doesn’t matter anyway. From the lions perspective if they do win through they’ll probably get more fans to marvel than the Gold Coast.

Friday night, 7.10pm at Ikon confirmed.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

Concerningly, average attendances in 2024 were 2,660 fans per match, with the women’s game incurring an annual loss of approximately $50 million.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
