2022 Player Reviews: #24 Trent Rivers

Featured Replies

After tasting premiership success in his second season at the club, the long kicking defender’s form slumped in mid year but he returned to the side for the run into the finals. More is expected from him in 2023.

"The defender played 18 games in 2022, but missed a chunk mid-season when he was dropped from the team. Forced his way back in round 18 and then played the remainder of the season. Has a year to run on his current deal." - Herald Sun

Rough year for Trent with injury holding him back, but I'm backing him to become one of the best medium defenders in the comp over the next few years.

I think our preferred backline next year will be Lever, May & Petty as the 3 talls and Salem, Rivers, Bowey and Brayshaw as the medium/smaller options and Hibberd as emergency.

He will regain the form he showed early in the GF

Kid can seriously play

Knee injury at the start of the year just ruined his season with form.

When fully fit as we saw last year he's one of the best young players going around.

Courageous, tough and a gun when fit. Hopefully a fully fit Riv for 2022.

Agree Trent Rivers is a huge talent is 6’2”” and 91kg, has pace and a bit of mongrel, would love to see him back to his 2021 form and as WOK mentioned would love to see him have a run through the midfield as well. Looking forward to a big 2023 from the “Riv”.!!

Serious long term talent. I would like to see him have a run through the midfield. Centre clearance potential for sure.

Gr8 name - it's a tribute to Farmer & Kossie obviously.

Love that he hasn't had a sook and gone home to WA.

Liked even more that though he got done HTB and had some turnovers in the finals, he still backed himself in to get the ball and didn’t go into his shell. He continued to ante-up, he just lost. Give me a footballer who isn’t deterred by mistakes over one who is filled with self-doubt because of it.

[censored] it and go again, perseverance through adversity. Diamonds are only yielded through withstanding pressure.

Is his GF from Melbourne?

That’s a good sign. We need to keep the Riv. He’s only 20-21 and with 3 solid years behind him. Good pace. Good tackling.  Good spoils.  Good aggression.  Like his long kicking.  He gets into trouble when he tries to do too much or go for fancy short passes.  He’s very good when he sticks to his regular game plan.

Glad to see responses recognising his relative youth and talent here; many of the comments during the season weren’t so forgiving.

He and Bowey found it tough to maintain form and intensity, but they’ll both bounce back.

Trent will be an excellent long term player for the MFC; respected by fans and underrated by the media.  Has a great attitude to his football to compliment his talent.
