Why didn't we pick up this bloke??

No 86 in the 2006 draft.....

Any ideas who it was???

A young bloke by the name of David Rodan!!! :o

Now before you say it, yes I realise he had a knee reconstruction a few years back and apparently lost a bit of his pace.... But in all seriousness, he is rippin' it up for Port in 2007!!!

Is gathering an avg of 18 posessions a game and is adding hardness to their midfield.... He is a tackling machine and is also kicking goals, both as a crumber and a running midfielder....

Am I wrong in thinking that we could not have used him on our list??

I know we have a number of hard-nut midfielders (injured ones at that) and we have been told we are looking to the future.... But Rodan is only 23 and by the looks of it he is relishing a second chance at footy after Richmond gave him the arse....

At number 86 he was a massive get! Please tell me we at least investigated and looked at him prior to our selections!?!?!?!

Yawn.

Rodan looks ok, but I'll take a bottom age garland, Petterd and Frawley... and depending on how he turns out I'll take Weetra too as a VERY bottom age recruit.

Rodan is another team's garbage, and the Toigs garbage no less. In the first 5 rounds it's clear he's started to make them look foolish, but give him time, and give him a game on Bell or Whelan. David's had a number of years in the system, and it's very simple... He's not the answer to our problems. Not by a long shot.

but who is to say that if we got him he would be playing well under daniher? maybe choco has got him worked out, maybe no other coach would have

to many maybes in a question like that

Choco does seem to have a knack in motivating players recruited from other clubs in their first year under him.

Consider Lonie, Walsh, Pickett and now Rodan among others.

Why didn't we pick him up....

Hes old, slow, injured, hasn't proven anything....

In perspective, he wouldn't get near our best 22. We are desperate with injuries, so he may get a game (of the bench) for us at the moment, but we expected to play with a much fuller list than will go onto the park tonight (Damn those injuries!).

Next, we already have a pack of hard-nutters. We can all remember the calls from the footy department before each draft. Then what did we do? Make them soft and try to remake them into Steve Monaghettis. A bad idea in my book to give away one of our key success factors.... but Rodan would have been a long way back on any list of midfielders. We don't need FP or HFF types (we seem to have too many of them...)

So.. Rodan - NO WAY. CAC has probably been one of the best at getting 'smokeys' from the draft. Rodan is no smokey, just a 'stinky'. Port may get a few good games from him (or even a season), but he is still damaged goods.

Buck it shows u have no clue about him yet you u think you do. rodan is only 23 years old and is very very quick! he is not injured he is actually quite fit atm! id take him over Ward or a wheatley

Rodan was a risky pick, even at the late stages of the draft.

I heard similar people talke about david teague when he was starring for carlton after being dumped from the roos.

Teague is now a nobody.

Rodan may be playing great footy, but there is a long way to go yet.

Port were lucky. he is a good fit...for now.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
