This award is a popularity contest IMO.  From memory Clarry was nowhere near it last year despite winning the AFLCA award.

Pleased that JVR is our best first year play.  But how does he get there if he hasn't played a senior game?

Not what it used to be.  This award had a lot of status back in the day, really now just a bit of a [censored] take.  Coaches award is the one to win now.

So there's a reason why it's called best first year player.

Disco is in his 2nd year.

It's just a nomination on behalf of the club. None of our first year players have played a game, so they just have to pick the best of the bunch I guess.

2024 Player Reviews: #36 Kysaiah Pickett

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
