Ben Brown has been poor nearly all year. Take off the ginger goggles.

History of good games means absolutely nothing.

Well if they keep bombing it in then yes, BB kicked goals as a lead up forward not a pack mark player, maybe change the forward line setup first.

Mitch Brown did nothing tonight mate, and for a bloke with 'fresh legs' he was as stationary as anyone in the forward line.

More touches and more tackle than Weid or BBB in last 3 games

I was expecting a big response tonight and bar a handful of players not many gave even a yelp.

We are bleeding and key injuries and bad form have robbed us from building any team connection.

But FMD something has to be said about these umpires. Swans gifted two wins in as many weeks.

Probably when he kicked 3 against the Tigers in round 6, or maybe when he kicked 4 in round 3...

Here's a brief comparison for this year of that 'historically good' Brown vs the 'disrespected' Weid.

GOALS
Brown 1.7 Weid 1.5

MARKS
Brown 3.2 Weid 3.2

TACKLES
Brown 0.6 Weid 1.2

DISPOSALS
Brown 8.1 Weid 8.2

CONTESTED MARKS
Brown 0.8 Weid 1.3

It's bizarre how people stick to their perceptions now matter the factual evidence. Brown is badly out of form.

At literally no point did I argue that we shouldn’t bring Weideman in. I just don’t think dropping Brown helps our cause at all. It puts greater pressure on everyone else in the forwardline who can’t buy a mark.
It speaks volumes that Mitch Brown played today ahead of Weideman. Footy department clearly has no faith in him either.

Brown will be dropped this week. Lock it in. 'Helping the cause' is not picking players who are horrendously out of form and don't even move to make space or lead. He's out.

Play Gawn more forward, Jacko can ruck more and Weid can do the backup ruck work. Need to change the mix as it's a disaster forward at the moment.

People are either entrenched in their anti-Weid glasses or didn't go to the game if they honestly think Ben Brown should stay in ahead of him after tonight.

Weid has been give so many opportunities but he just doesn’t have it in him. BBB was poor again, yes, but he is still a more reliable forward than Sam. We either bring in Daw and have Gawn play forward permanently or leave in BBB. Howe and Moore will have a field day next week.

Ah yes, 8 disposals and 4 tackles. Nicely followed up with 0 goals and 0 behinds. Ripper.

Ben Brown isn't reliable this year.

Don't understand why so many live in the past.

He doesn't move. That's the problem. I agree the entries have been poor, but when you're at the games and watch the forwards they all just plant in one spot and refuse to lead or separate.

Out. BBB and Tomlinson

In. May and weed.

A good finals series but ultimately not AFL standard

He got 6 coaches votes a couple of weeks ago, the kid can play but not his best last two weeks.

If Sam had given us something, a glimmer in the last month, then I’d have him in for sure. But I can’t remember the last good game he has played in the seniors. Even the players don’t kick to him anymore.

We just have to move on from him unless he has a drastic turnaround in the 2s (20-25 goals in the next month type of  form), which honestly will be nothing short of a miracle.

Unless we change our gameplan, bringing Weid in is pointless. T. Mac's role is understated, and Weid has demonstrated that he's incapable of playing it.

Maybe it's time to shift Petty to CHF, and keep Tomlinson in the team.

As for the changes, May comes in for one of the Browns.

Living in the past. Pick on form.

Weid was good today, deserves a shot. Both Browns were wearing concrete shoes and Ben had the hands to match. At least one of them will come out, quite possibly both.

Shows you the poor calibre of AFL coaches

Jackson is in horrible form. Can't take a mark and disposal at the moment is horrendous. Disposal efficency was 30 percent tonight.

Agree, which is the other part of that plan - means Jacko gets a more consistent role for a game or two (or more if it works out).

Imma give this take a Kent Kingsley Award. Not sure which award specifically but it deserves some sort of recognition. It really is a special take.

If you watch, what they do is kick to pockets players never look to transfer the ball other clubs have woken up to it BB has nowhere to run but to that position.

Normally I would agree, but we have seen time and time again, his VFL form doesn’t mean much in terms of AFL.

We just can’t keep doing the same thing in terms of dropping Ben for Sam and vice versa. It hasn’t worked for 2 years. There are numerous other options to try if we drop BBB.

I do watch. I disagree we've been going to pockets much lately. Tonight especially it was just bomb it 35 out straight in front, and the majority of the blame is on the forwards who were just flat out not leading or moving.

TMac looks to be out for at least a lengthy period - he told supporters at the game tonight he could be done for the year - so bring in Weid now for a chunk of games, say 6 weeks, and give him that run at it. We really have nothing to lose, our tall forward setup has not been working at all, and this is a way we can shake it up AND give Weid a consistent go.

I disagree there are 'numerous' other options. Weid kicked 3 and took 10 marks today. Who are the other 'numerous' better options?

Edited by Lord Nev

I say we go all in on the Mark Neeld philosophy, bring in Daw, play Hunt one out in defense against the opposition's best forward, Ben Brown on the wing, send Petracca and Langdon to the VFL. And have May return via VFL reserves. Yolo.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
