Congratulations to Melky who runs out for his 200th AFL game today. Thoroughly deserved, in his prime he was as good a HF connector as there was going around and always knew how to slot a long bomb or two, obviously as we've improved he's fallen away and he does lack in some areas but at his one wood, he's right near the pinnicle across the competition. All the best to him and hopefully we bring home a dub

Thanks for kicking off this thread @Turner.

Congratulations Jake 200 games is a great achievement for a modern footballer and you've put in a bunch of great ones for the red and blue.

Jake's 2018 finals series was an absolute ripper and us winning finals that Jake was a huge part of, contributed to us building belief that we belonged and could perform on the big stage.  Kicked a great goal last week that was similar to those that got us over the top of Hawthorn back in 2018.

Hope you have a great game today Jake and enjoy the rest of your ride with the mighty Narrm.

A great achievement for anyone let alone those Essendon players who suffered through a year long ban thanks to their pathetic administration.
Go well today Melky.

To put his Demon career in perspective:  when he joined, Salem was in his second year, Brayshaw his first and, Petracca and Oliver had yet to play a game.  He had to sit out 2016 but his impact after that is in the same category as Byrne, Vince, Cross and Lewis.  They came at a time when we really needed their respective skills and experience.  Without him would we have made the 2018 prelim which gave us the finals experience to 2021 success?

He has done his job for the mfc and has earnt the right to celebrate his 200th game which haven't come easy.

Listening to the interview shows his humility and how special this is for him and his family.  Hope they all have a great day.

Thank you for creating this thread, Turner. It’s awesome to hear this praise which is 100% deserved.

85 good games and will never forget that arrogant left footer from 55 that buried the Hawks in 2018. We all know Hawks supporters (and Melbourne supporters) who thought we were going to be overrun. Melksham stopped that dead and in turn the Hawks for 5 years now.

Well done Jake, 200 AFL games is always a great achievement.

Could be yeah. Takes me back to the 70’s.
those side windows are similar to the Smokers Stand at The ‘G

Congrats Jake on 200 games. This might be his last year so good to see him being recognized.

He moved to the Dees when we were just starting to build. Also brought across his mate Hibbo the following year.

Certainly loves a goal (and was accurate more than most) and has kicked some very good goals in the red and blue. Especially loved his sealer v Hawks in the 2018 finals.  Left foot on the run from outside 50. Hawks were coming in the last and his goal stopped their momentum.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
